I know no one has responded but i will add.. Maybe it just seems open because its so soft.. I dont know i guess ive just read so many horror stories ive got myself nervous
You should never do a self check.. its not safe unless you know what you're doing. And if you're not a doctor there is really no way you could know if youre dilated... or if you're cervix is funneling. If I were you I wouldn't do a "self check" again.
Idk, but I would defiantly tell ur doc and have him check you. And I wouldnt check yourself again. If u are u don't wanna do anything to make it worse.
Ya i totally see what your saying. I wont do it again. But if i may, respectfully, add that i have been told that self checks are ok as long as your hands are clean, nails short, and you are gently feeling just the outside. I guess ill just wait the 2 days and see my doc. Its probably nothing i am assuming the cm thing as a guess, im definitely no expert. Thanks for the answers :) i just want a healthy baby and pregnancy. Only 20 more weeks any way !
Everyone has an opinion on everything lol. If your doctor says it's ok, and you feel comfortable with your doctor's advice then I don't see anything wrong with it. I hope everything is okay though and try not to worry...easier said than done of course lol :). Keep us posted
Lexa - her Dr HASN'T said it's safe for her to do. Dominique is pointing out the obvious. Self-checks ARE NOT recommended during pregnancy because (1) you have no idea what you're feeling / looking for / if it's normal and (2) you put your baby at risk of a bacterial infection. It doesn;t matter if she washed her hands with handsoap then sanitized them, unless she done a "surgical scrub" handwash, there's no way she would have eliminated every single bacteria off of her hands, then everything she touched from handwash - popping her fingers inside would have made them unsanitised again - this includes clothing and bedsheets etc. When Dr's / Midwives do cervical checks, they wear sterile gloves and carry it out in a sterile environment, they don;t just wash their hands and assume they are clean.
It's not a case of "everyone has an opinion on everything", it's common sense.
Well like i said... I was told it was ok but i also said i was respectfully asking. No need to push one answer or the other. Ill leave it for the dr.
Just to add, who sanitizes their hands and then goes touching other random stuff before checking?
Who checks their own cervix? You should not have a smart response to anyone that is answering the question YOU ask. Checking your own cervix is very very weird sorta creepy.
LOL Jordan that made me laugh :)
Shyloveskai - your hands aren;t sterile or even 100% clean after using handsoap to wash them,
Ya i get what your saying....
Some ppl can be quite bit.chy when they "know' they're right. Shyloveskai, ain't nothing wrong with wanting to know what's goin on with your body. Askin questions is what this forum is for. Ladies we should be tryin to help each other without bein judgy or getting an attitude
thanks, I started to feel sort of put down for asking.. I wasnt trying to be smart or weird so i apologize if it came off that way.. I was just curious if someone had experience with self checks. I know most people dont do them, and yes may cause bacteria to get up there whether you think your all sanitized or not. I probably wont do it again now. But if your in labor at home i was told you can check to see your progress.. I only checked out of curiousness
Like I said, IF your DOCTOR says you can do something and you feel comfortable with that advice than I do not see why not. IF your DOCTOR DOESN'T recommend doing so, then don't. Everyone on this forum does have an opinion and many of them are incorrect; however, this is a community where we should feel safe to share concerns. A lot of the time I find people who are not OBs giving their opinion as though it were fact. I may not be an OB, but my father is and I ask him many of these questions only to find out a layman's person has given inappropriate advice. So again, before you go off on me or anyone else as a matter of fact, please get your facts straight. What might be 'common sense' to you may not be to someone else. For instance, someone asked has posted that twins can be passed down from the paternal side. For me that is obviously wrong, because I'm a graduate student in Genetics; however, for many others that would not be very obvious. This is supposed to be a safe place, a place to share. It is not a place to one individual to force their opinions on another. Nor is it a place to make someone feel small.
Sorry your question got so much attitude and rudeness. We're not all like that. Hope you found an answer comforting to you though. (:
Just ignore the raunchy people, it seems to be the same people over and over being that way. Because they know it all...
And I don't think feeling up your vagina is Weird. Every girl does it or have done it. So it's not creepy. Don't feel like ur bein put down.
Im with EmmalynsMommy! Ppl can come off so rude even if they don't feel so. Keep askin questions. That why we all are here. :)
I would love to hear from a women that hasn't put a finger up there at one time or another?! How is it "creepy" ?? Checking your cervix and masturbation(which i think most ladies have done, its not weird its natural) and so is checking your cervix, as long as doctor has given the green light and you were either educated or instructed on how to do so. The two things really aren't all that different, so i would love for her to explain that response. It made me laugh!
I would just recomend self checks or self diagnosis is never a good thing.. We as humans tend to diagnose ourselfs with everything. Im so bad with this lol i google everything. So dont feel bad for doing this but also dont panic because of a self check. Hope everything is going good. Did you find out anything? And it is totally NOT creepy.. if touching your own vag is creepy id like to know what sex is......
I AGREE WITH -4THONECOMING-!!!
If you have anything at all to say about my opinion please tag me in it or mention my name. Better yet.. report me. My phone. My fingers. My opinion. ...thanks..sincerely Jordan102013
I've done plenty of research on this and it's absolutely okay to check your own cervix. Bunch of judgemental bints. Im seeing so much judgement on these posts lately and there's seriously no need, if you can't give helpful advice to pregnant women who need it then keep your damn mouths shut. Feel sorry for these women's husbands and children.
