How do you time your contractions if your stomach stays tight?

I am 39 weeks and I started having some contractions pretty good. They didn't hurt too bad and weren't that close. Well then they started getting closer and now my stomach is just staying tight for a long time and only loosens for a second... It's pretty uncomfortable. Could this mean anything?

The beginning of one wave of pain to the beginning of the next. Sounds like they aren't intense enough yet if its just belly tightening or could just be bh.

They are staying pretty close. I just remember the ones I had with my son.. They were so painful and I could barely walk. I had him at 39 weeks.. But I wouldn't dilate just like now. They had to induce me because my bp went sky high..
These contractions are close and won't go away but they don't hurt that bad. I just don't wanna go to the hospital to be sent home for the 4th time.

Belly tightenings are contractions! Thats how mine are, first and even this second time around. No pain or anything just belly tightening .

I have already been to the hospital 3 times due to contractions but I won't dilate anymore for some reason. I was only at a 1. I already told myself that I wasn't going back to the hospital unless she was about to fall out of me. Lol
