Baby Shower Advice?

Im not a traditional type of person. My inlaws wanted to throw me a baby shower, but I dont want it their way. I wanted a Dr.Seuss theme but apparently my mother in law says its not a "baby" theme so now I have to choose something else. Im having mine at 22 weeks, since we live in another state and were driving home where both our families are at, and thats the only time we can go home. I also wanted a cookout (please dont judge) I just wanted food, have a water slide and a pinata for the children and i dont want baby games. i just find them really weird and its not me. I also have an issue with who I am inviting. of course its his family, and my mom and friends. but now I cant invite my dads family cause my mom and them dont get along, and I chose my mom over them. I dont like them very much.I just want a little party, and to just have fun. My inlaws also said its a only girls thing and I dont want that.
Has anyone had a babyshower/cookout? Some have told me that that is not the way to go, but at the end of it all it is my baby shower, I just dont know how to approach my inlaws and tell them I want a cookout.

It is YOUR shower and I think you should have exactly what you want! We were in the exact same boat when it comes to time line. My hubby and I live in a another state and knew for sure we would only be home around 21 weeks. I ended up planning the baby shower with my Mom and MIL and it was wonderful to have some input. We did not do a cook out because the weather in Oregon that time a year (or any time of year really) was not great, but we did have a buffet style very low key event. It turned out really wonderfully. I am not much into 'Baby' theme stuff so we just decorated in a colorful fashion. People came and went as they pleased and we did a few little games. I hate Baby Shower games usually, but we found some that were actually very fun. I love the Idea of a Pinata and BBQ! I would just let them know exactly how you feel. You need to feel comfortable at the party!

I am not a fan of the games and such.
We went swimming ate ourselves sick and had tons of fun

theres lots of different baby showers,
theres no such thing "as rules" on how or what to make of them
yours seems to look fun :)
i had a jumping ballon on mine for the kids
and i did do games they
and a lil of alcohol involved for the grown up game
and guys&girls were in mine as well x)
just approach them , its YOUR BABY, and you should be fine with what YOU want on your baby shower!
