With my first pregnancy I spent many many hours at band practices...couped up in small rooms or basements with instruments hooked to amps. My daughter is now a VERY BIG music fanatic, she's in band at school and just really loves anything to do with music. especially rock and alternative which is what the bands I hung around wtih back then played.
I was told it was not an issue unless you are exposing the baby for long periods of time. I was concerned about this too because my husband plays bass in the house and it rattles everything. We also are at shows nearly every weekend. We compromise and most of the time he plays the electric bass while using headphones. He can play the stand up whenever he wants. That thing is still loud. :)
The big problems comes up for women that work in very loud industrial jobs. The prolonged exposure can cause hearing defects...but with that, you are talking 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Ivy for once I disagree with you...well, kinda.
As far as the vibrations go...yeah I'd turn the bass down a bit. BUT music level, if your ears can stand it I personally say go for it. ONLY because my parents told me to listen to loud music when I was pregnant with my first, and he can sleep through anything. Every time I'm in the car alone with this baby, I turn it up...not to the point that I'm gonna make myself deaf, but definitely a bit louder than I'd play it with my son in the car...
well I'm a total rock-brat and I used to love to listen to my music turned WAY up...bass and all...but when I got pregnant with my first I started turning it down. I know that studies have shown babies can hear in the womb, but not until mid/late-2nd trimester from what I understand...but I don't think the vibration is GREAT for them before that.
however, with that being said...I know several ladies who have gone to rock concerts in the early stages of pregnancy and the babies were just fine.
personally? i say turn it down for the next few months....it won't hurt anything and little bubb won't be feeling like salt in a shaker, LOL....but honestly from what I've seen with friends I don't think it's damaging...just...maybe not the best idea?
