I'm sure I will be the horror story here, so don't freak to much. I had my daughter 11/26/11 by c-section because she was breech. She was born at noon and I was still numb from my spinal at 6pm. Around midnight that night the nurse was forcing me up out of bed to walk. I did get up but in the process I screamed and cried. I'm so thankful they allowed df to stay with me 24/7. The next day was a little easier to get up and that night I showered. I was there till 11/29 and staples were removed before I left. I had a very rough time at home getting in and out of bed. I actually slept with a bunch of pillows almost sitting up. I did use my pain pills as directed in the hospital and at home. On 12/4 my pain became unbearable and I was running fever. I went to my ob on 12/5 and in the office my incision ruptured leaking blood and puss. I was then admitted back to the hospital till 12/12. The test showed pasudamonus which is a form of staff infection. While in the hospital I had a wound vac placed. I was again admitted on 12/16-12/22 because another puss pocket had formed. The infection reached the outside of my stomach muscle. Then from 12/23/11 to 2/14/12 I went to the doctor daily for dressing changes. My skin was so raw from bandages and tape that each times it was changed I bled. I had finally had enough that I asked the surgeon to go in and cut out all infected tissue. Yet at the same time my gallbladder was removed because of stones. I had that surgery on 2/15/12 and it was like having another c-section but with no baby. This time my staples were left in for 2 weeks. It was a very long and painful process and I'd never wish it on anyone.

I've had 2 C-Sections and i didn't recover as quickly as some of the other women who responded. it is definately painful but not horrifying.. recovery took a while because you use your abdominal muscles for things you never even realized before.. i'd say i felt closer to normal 4-5 weeks afterwards, but every woman is different..

I had a c-section and it definitely was nothing like the horror stories I heard. I was up the next morning (I didn't have him til 10:24pm, and woke up from an emergency c-section at about 12, so they wanted me to stay put for a while), and it hurt at first just because it's something you're not used to. I was walking the halls with my son and having no problem taking care of him by the end of my hospital stay, I didn't even want to be wheel chaired out but it's required. I was back to feeling almost 100% better within a week and a half, of course no heavy lifting or overdoing it, but definitely don't baby yourself. It's nothing you can't tolerate, and accept pain meds. if you need them! I only did for about 3 days, good luck mama, you'll be fine! :)

I didn't find the recovery much of an issue.  I walked to the loo the night I had the baby (so, probably 7 hours after the C-section) and walked into the hospital pretty comfortably a week later for a well-baby visit, though I didn't carry the baby.  Not much pain, they do give some painkiller but you don't need it much.

Fairly quick. modern medicine is great. I think average hospital stay is about 4 days and they do it under your bakini line,.and for mine I was even able to watch through a large mirror propped up for me
