At 21, the chances are very slim. It is not that this situation has never happened to a young mother, but it would be more logical for you to worry at 41 than 21. I think there are some markers that can be seen in ultrasounds that might possibly suggest further testing in an older mother, but if someone at 21 had a baby with them, the doctor might still not recommend an amnio. I don't think the risk is so much a false positive as possibly causing a miscarriage. (That is a slim chance also, but it exists.)
You should do the screening it is just a blood test and ultrasound and if it says there is a possibility of abnormality you will have the choice to have an amnio.... I have known 2 people who got false positives..... If you had a child with downs your life qould become more difficult but you would still love it very much.... I had my second child when I was 18 when before I turned 20 he was diagnosed with autism.... My life has never Bern the same but I love that kid so much.... He doesn't really talk, never feeds himself still in diapers crys a lot he used to throw himself into walls and the list goes on and on.... You would naturaly figure out a way to manage even tho there would prob be times that you never think you'll make it through
What is an Amnio. I have a cousin with autism but I think hers must of been a different level because he talks and goes to school and such. but it was difficult the first few years for her. What causes autism??
An amnio is a long thin needle that goes through your abdomin to test amniotic fluid. It's unlikely your child would have downs.... Autism has an unknown cause but it affects about one in a hundred kids and it affects more boys than girls... No autistic child is the same it verys in degree... I've seen kids a lot better than my son but I have also seen kids a lot worse than my son.... You should not stress these kinds of things when your preg cause it will do you and ur baby no good.... I stressed my first two about everything and this one I have been extremly stress free
Autism and down syndrome are two COMPLETELY different things.
I have two cousins who have "high functioning" autism. Meaning they have their certain quarks like most people with autism but they can function with a normal everyday life. One cousin is in his 3rd of college. The other has been married for 6 years with a beautiful son and works as a nurse.
