Bumpers are a no no because the baby could another your not supposed to put anything at all on the crib...
They seem to change the rules all the time on what is good and what isn't. My little sister had bumpers, but she also was never alone haha.
Didn't know that about bumpers but thank God i do now.
I'm sharing my room with my son since we have a full house haha. I read that bumpers aren't safe so I'm just gonna leave it out. I've been browsing online at things and its just hard to decide haha. I already want to get him everything I see lol. Hopefully the people when I register at babies r us can help me. Thanks for the advice ladies! And congrats on the little ones:)
Bumpers are a no-no, unless you tie them around the bottom (under) the crib. They're a smothering hazard if in the crib.
You'll need a good mattress; those are available at Babies R Us (be sure to measure your crib before you go), and a waterproof mattress cover and a couple of fitted (bottom) crib sheets. I used to make my baby's bed with a couple of disposable incontinence pads under the sheet. (Those are the kind of incontinence pads they sell for old people, flat with absorbent material on the top and a plastic backing. They are also great for taking along when you go somewhere with the baby, as you can lay them out to change the baby and roll them up and toss them if they get poopy.)
If you get your sheets in a pattern that matches any other fabric thing (ours matched a quilt, which we weren't supposed to put the baby to bed with either), you can throw the room together in a hurry to look cute even if you aren't having the baby sleep with all the parts in the bed when he is actually sleeping.
My doc advised me to put the baby into a long sleeved onesie t-shirt, a sleepsack, and on the fitted bottom sheet. No pillow, no quilt, no top sheet, no blanket. It seemed like I was putting him to bed on a bench at the bus station, but he didn't seem troubled, and I didn't lie awake worrying that he would get his head wedged into the bumper and be unable to breathe.
I bought a 3 piece bedding set at walmart for $30. Unless you're decorating their whole room with matching everything, there's no need for a big set. Her set is owls and it came with a crib sheet, crib skirt, and a comforter. I bought the diaper stacker separately for $12. You're really not supposed to use a bumper at all, but it's ultimately your choice. The comforter you won't end up using until they are older because you shouldn't have anything unnecessary in the crib. Lots of crib sheets are good to have though! For the mattress you want a firm one, it doesn't have to be an expensive name brand. I was going to buy a sealy baby/toddler mattress, but I found out that Kolcraft makes sealy mattresses and they're sold for a lot cheaper. Reviews are your friend :)
I bought mines at Albee Baby online. Its was a 13 piece bedding set that had 2 window vanishes, 1 fitted bed sheet, 1 diaper stacker, 3 piece wall art, 1 toy bag, crib bumpers, 2 pillows, 1 crib quilt, and 1 crib skirt. I bought the musical mobile separate. I say in a bedding you would want to look for durability and see if it has as many useful pieces. Always make sure it has at lease a quilt, fitted sheet, bumpers, and dust ruffle. Everything else in a bedding set is nice but those 4 are very important in crib bedding sets. I recommend you to try Albee baby as well, When you spend $49 shipping is free. Now about mattresses a standard mattress that fits your crib would be fine to use just make sure its not really hard or really soft.
