I actually asked the ultrasound tech last time I had my 20 week anatomy/gender scan and she said it helps them to more easily locate and see your uterus and baby. Do what they say, they are the ones who know! :) I just drank from my water bottle as much as I could on the drive there and in the waiting room. Then as soon as she was done she showed me to a restroom.
Ours tell us to drink 1L of water 1 hour before the appointment.
That's weird? I always pee before my ultrasound because when I get there for every appointment my OB has me take a urine test.. So my bladder is always empty before doing an ultrasound? Guess every doctor has a different way of doing things. Honestly, I don't think I'd be able to do an ultrasound with a full bladder because any pressure I'd probably pee myself? Lol
I just had an ultrasound a couple weeks ago that said to drink 16 ounces of water an hour before. I was in the waiting room and had to pee so bad but she said hold it. Lol I thought i was going to pee my pants. Just hold it I guess there's a reason behind it.
Some clinics use older equipment so definitely follow their directions and arrive on a full bladder, they know what they're talking about and how good their systems are!
Drinking water is an old rule, the scans are much clearer now so you don't need a full bladder. What is good to do is consistently drink a lot of water (not only for your health and the baby's) but the more water you drink the more amniotic fluid you have and the more fluid you have the clearer ultrasound pictures are
Yes. When you wake up go pee and between then and your appointment drink about 32 ounces of water is what my radiologist says. It helps them to better locate baby if you are earlier on in weeks.
I never heard of such a thing. I really don't think it matters. I had an ultrasound with my bladder completely empty and there was no problem
