Going on sick leave

So tomorrow is my last day of work. The Dr is putting me off due to back pain. I have chronic back/neck pain which is being made worse by how i have to sit at work on a stool for manicure facials and pedicures, or be standing bending over doing waxing. Here in Canada we have excellent benefits. I will be getting sick leave for the next 15 weeks, which will take me to 35 weeks pregnant, i then can switch to maternity leave and we get a whole year. We recieve about 55% of our usual wage, which for me who works on commision s calcualted from my best 14 pay weeks of the last year. This is working to my advatage. Right now because of the economic turmoil my luxery services are the first to be cut out of peoples budgets, so i'll be making more on sick leave then i have the last 3 months.
I really hope that by having this break from work my back can heal and i will be able to return to my career which i love. BUT my Dr is saying that i had best consider a career change.

I am very thankful for our excellant benefits. that was the point of the post. how lucky i am to live in canada. that i can actually take this time off before rather then having to work every day in pain. They even have plans in place for people like me who work on commison so we can get a fair maternity leave. If i was able to continue working, but had to cut my hours before the baby the system in our province takes that into consideration.
I also feel that i am very lucky because with my last pregnancy i lost my baby at 19 weeks, i was able to take 15 weeks sick leave then as well, it would've been so hard going back to work before then since 2 coworkers were due the same week as i had been
I think the USA needs to update thier practices.
BTW i'm due march 24

Not to sound b i t c h y, but you should just be thankful. I have had a lot of problems w. my pregnancy and was hopsitalized and taken out of work for 5 days last month and I didn't get anything.. I am out of sick time, and get no paid leave of any kind whatsoever.. I would be elated to have the benefits you are about to receive!!

I DO understand you love your job, but at least you don't have to stress financially for a year or more if I understand correctly?! I will have to go back to work after my son is born almost immediately b/c I can't afford to take time off..

Hopfully you heal well in the next 12-14 months and you can return to your carreer, but if not, be psyched that you have minimal (financial) complications until then!

Good luck and I hope your back aches improve!! Rest up! When are you due?
