He is driving me nuts!!!!

So we have been having problems with our landlord and there are alot of things that need to be done here at our apartment. I ususally leave when they are doing work so im not exposed to it and yesterday they were working outside so I stayed home because I didnt feel like going anywhere and it was outside so i would be ok. Well this morning we found out that when they were sanding the paint outside the dust came inside and is on the windowsil of our kitchen and on the counters. The building was built prior to 1978 so it might contain lead based paint and it says not to sand paint becuase the dust is the most hazardus part if it does have lead in it. So now he wants me to go to the ER to get checked out. I called labor and delivery to see if I can just go there because I dont want to go to the ER and they said no to go to my OBs office but my boyfriend is insisting I go to the ER because the tests from my doc will take a few days but the ER will just be hours. What do you ladies think? Should I make the trip to the ER or to my OB??

They said that I would be in the hospital for a few days with an IV medication that drains the lead from your body. They would just do it in a pill form but because im pregnant I would have to do it in the hospital. Also when the baby is born I have to get him tested just to be safe. No big deal though. Im just glad that I have to symptoms and everything looks good so far.

If you're in the 2nd or 3rd trimester, your baby may not be affected. The problems usually occur during LONG-TERM exposure, but you were VERY WISE to go get tested! Lead poisoning is very dangerous. My house was built in 1909 so we have to be very careful ourselves as well.

What are they going to do if you test positive for lead? Is there something you take?

I'm glad to hear that everything looks good so far.  Let us know the results of the bloodwork when you get them.

I think your far enough along to not be too worried about the effects, the most that ppl are worried about is stuff like that that happens in the first 3 months.

So an inspector just came and they think its dust from lead paint being sanded and my doctor wont be in the office till thurs so we are going to the ER in a few minutes for a blood test to see if i have lead in me. They said that if you are exposed you have to get tested within 72 hours of exposure because your body thinks it calcium and absorbs it in your bones and it wont show up on the blood test then its too late. it can cause low birth weight and pre term labor and also mental retardation in a fetus so im going to make sure my baby is ok. I will update you ladies when I get back.

I just called my OB. They are at lunch. So I left a message for someone to call me. I might just go to the ER and give my landlord the bill. I dont know. Our landlords are such *** holes. We are suing them and the court date is May 8th. We would just leave but we dont have money to do that or a place to stay for now.

i think that you should have the paint tested also. or actually, your landlord shoulda tested the paint before sanding. that was his responsibility!! if labor and delivery said to go to your ob's office than go there. call them at least and see what they say.
