High risk specialist?

I went to my first ob appt and my Dr said he is sending me to a high risk specialist. Since I have a history of miscarriages and last one was when I was 15 weeks he thinks it's best....my question is I have never been to one and was curious to what to expect when I go? Will this be a one time thing or is it through out my pregnancy?
