going on for prostaglandin gel in a couple hours

This evening starts the induction process, and I am suddenly so nervous. My doc will try using prostaglandin gel first to get things going. I am just wondering if anyone has ever used this and had luck with it?  We'll do a pitocin drip in the am if the gel doesn't work.  I am 39 weeks and 1 day, and been in latent labor and dilated at 3 for a couple of weeks.  Very miserable and ready to meet my little girl.

Update.
Went in for the gel. Contractions started very quickly, but not intense enough just yet. Decided to go home and labor there, and will go back in the am for pitocin.  So glad I will hopefully be holding my little girl this time tomorrow.

Wow, how exciting and good luck! My doc skipped the gel and cervidil since I was already dialated to 2cm. She went right to pitocin and broke my water. Once all of that was done I went from 5cm-10cm in 45 mins and pushed a smidge and my daughter was born.   Hope yours goes as smoothly. :)

I had Cervidil inserted to start my induction with DS at 41 weeks - which I'm pretty sure is different (I remember it looking like a tampon and I think they said that it's typically used with women who have never given birth before).

With that being said....I had it inserted at 6pm and they kept me in triage for an hour or so to monitor me and the baby and then sent me home.  I woke up at about 3am with cramping.  Contractions weren't that strong but eventually were coming every 5-6 minutes apart and by nearly 6am I was bleeding slightly.  We returned to the hospital at 6am where they checked me - I was just 1cm dilated - and they had me walk the halls for an hour or so to try and get things moving along more and until my room was ready.

I was settled in my room by 9am and hooked up to Pitocin.  Contractions were easy until my OB came in to break my water at nearly 2pm.  Had back labour....intense contractions with little rest time in between and eventually got an epidural (at 5pm or so).  DS was born at almost 10pm that night.

Anyway, to make a long story short......the Cervidil did work for me.  I hope the gel does the trick for you and that you'll be holding your little bundle soon :-))  Good luck!!!!
