The stitches... Concerned..?

Okay, I got some stitches after I gave birth.. I don't even know how many, they didn't even tell me.. They were supposed to be the dissolvable kind and he said they'd be gone after a few days (I THINK that's what he said.. I was pretty out of it) And if not that, probably said a 'couple weeks' or something.. Anyways, I was concerned about them for a while during the first couple weeks because it was a little swollen down there on the right side where the stitches are. I probably should have called him then, but I wanted to wait to see, since I have no idea what's supposed to be normal since I've never been through it... Anyways, that bump/swollen area went away, even though it's a little tender there at times, but only a very small amount... My concern is this, I was "checking everything out" down there earlier, lol.. When I was in the shower... And I saw what looked like two little pieces of thread sticking out of the entrance. Just a small small bit.. But I moved it and wasn't sure if it was just TP or what, and realized it was attached! So.. It's the stitches.. But why? Shouldn't they be gone? I'm so confused...Tomorrow will be one month since I gave birth.. I'm rather worried.. What if they just didn't work, what does that mean? what's the next step? I'm kind of scared about this.. Any similar experiences or.. ANYthing?
I see my Dr. on the 3rd, so I won't bother giving him a call or anything, it's only one more week. And it is not causing me any problems right now.

When I had mine...I had a couple "sprigs" left over that were easily pulled out by tweezers...but not everyone may be comfortable doing that.  If the swelling is gone, that's a good sign.  It doesn't look red or have red streaks near the stiched site does it?  That could signal infection but if it's not really sore it probably isn't.  I will tell you that the area may be tender/sensitive for quite some time.  Mine was for MONTHS.

If you ARE really concerned about it,. call your doctor....but you should have you 6 weeks check up in the next week or so, correct?  You can always mention it then.

Maybe just give him a quick call to make sure that everything is ok. It doesnt hurt to make the effort :-)

sometimes they put the first (and sometimes the last) stiches in that aren't disolvable... If the soreness is gone there is absolutly nothing to worry about, you just need to get a tiny snip when you get checked next. (if it isn't gone already)
