Is it possible for Dr to ripen you using her hands?

The dr checking you can help you dilate, which is why they start checking at 36 weeks, only once a week. They don't check to see if you're dilated to speed things up though.
It doesn't hurt, by the way ..not for me anyway and I had a male dr.

I got checked at 6 months & then again at 34 weeks& when i got checked at 34 weeks the doc had told me i was dilated to 1 cm. So she said for me to come back in a week ...not sure why but from now on my appt are every week. & When she checked me it was very umcomfortable & It hurt me :/  & my baby balled up into a ball .so it was not something i want to happen again but i kno it will ofcourse -.-
