Not sure how old the baby is but if only a few days it takes a bit for him to get the hang of it and it can be painful at first but the baby should get it because if its painful for you it's probably uncomfortable for baby too
I use to let warm water run over mine in the shower and used lanolin cream, and it helped a lot with mine. Whenever I first started breast feeding mine got so bad they would crack like chapped or really bad dry lips. I also found different ways that worked better with latching on.
Try a warm rag that's what my sister uses it relaxes her breast and eases the pain.
I think they have creams and i saw this thing at cvs that you freeze n you put it onyour nipple like a icy pad. I just used my own milk. I rubbed some over my nipple. And i put ice on my boob. Hope that helps. And go you for feeding you're child. I did for a year. You'll get the hang of it.
Lanolin cream can help n u dont have to wash it off find a lactation consultant or le leche league they can help make sure baby is latching right or try different holds that can make u sore too. I also used gel packs a couple times to get some relief from babies r us or a nipple shield just dont use it too much just to give ur nipples a lil break
The baby probably isnt latching correctly try setting up an appointment with a wic breastfeeding consultant...
