Naming Issue?

I found out yesterday I'm having a baby girl. Her father decided to disappear almost a month ago and my mom keeps telling me that she needs to have his last name to make it easier to get child support(i live in texas if that helps) I don't want her to have his last name. I don't want to give her the last name of a man who didn't want to have anything to do with her. Is it true that if she has my last name it'll be harder to get child support?

This is my situation. Any social worker will tell you that if he's notthere for the full nine months, supporting you then don't put his name on the certificate. There will be a court ordered DNA test for Child support and if it's court ordered, He has no choice in the matter whether he wants to do it or not. You will get CS out of him. Don't give her the name. I contemplated this too. It's just not worth it in the long run especially for a guy that walks out of his fatherly responsibilities.

Okay thanks. Just wanted to make sure. My mom always thinks she's right and I knew that kinda made no sense but I just had to ask.

I didnt have my fathers last name when i was born and he still paid child support. As long as his name is on the birth certificate,  (which they can add on if he isn't present at the time of birth by him signing a recognition of parentage) then you will have no issue getting child support. But in order for him to sign the recognition of parentage, a dna test will be done.

No, they'll do a dna test regardless. It won't be any more difficult
