Necessary Items for Baby

Experienced and FTMs,what are your 7-10 must-haves that you would recommend to survive your baby's first year? I wanted to see if I am missing anything on my registries, the countless website recommendations that I have read, and from the items I already purchased.

1) Nursery set (convertible crib, dresser, changing table, hamper)
2) Graco Pack n' Play with napper and changer (also works as a bassinet)
3) Breast pump and accessories (I'm nursing)
4) Diapers and wipes (subscription through Amazon)
5) Safety 1st Convertible Car Seat
6) Baby wraps (similar to carriers)
7) Sleepwear (onesies, sleep sacks, swaddlers, etc)
8) Burp cloths
9) Stroller
10) Ingenuity Trio 3-in-1 High Chair

*All the somewhat obvious and extra stuff to most of these items (clothes, matress and sheets, hygeine, first-aid kit, etc.) are already covered*

You'll most likely want to have rash cream ready n if you want your baby to be using a pacifiar then that too. I also always had gripe water for when my baby had gas or was really fussy, it's a life saver.

I've been told multiple times that a baby swing is a must. It's nice to put baby in for a nap if you need to get things done around the house.

Teething gel or granuals and teethers, last thing you want to do is run to the shop with a screaming baby that won't settle!

I'm not sold on convertable car seats for infants. I like the bucket seats because you can take them from the car to the house without waking them up. The Graco ones are good for up to 35lbs and 32inches so they last usually at least the first year. I also loved the hang toys play mat and exersaucer So that baby can play and I can get stuff done. A white noise machine has been a lifesaver. Once they get old enough and can't sleep anywhere any time (between 3-4 months) it's very helpful for nap time. We still use it for my daughter who is now 13 months. Helps her sleep a lot better and we don't have to worry about little noises waking her up.

Oh also a couple nursing bras and shirts that are easily accessible. A baby monitor if you live in a house with more than one story where you may not hear baby on the other side of the house.

Activity mat, an exersaucer, and of course a swing (forgot to squeeze that one in there)! Does any moms have all 3 or think just 1-2 of these items are enough?

Leahcarlie94 Stuff for teething - good idea because I only have Sophie the Giraffe on my list!
jjolfert You make a great point about the convertible car seat; my mom said the same thing. I may buy both of them because I can't let go of how long my convertible car seat will last! I'll make sure to add nursing apparel as soon as I figure out a size for myself *tears*. I pretty much live in sweats, yoga pants, moomoos, and my gifted maternity wear lol.

We had all three (mat, swing, saucer) and they are all useful. The swing was good for out daughter who had reflux. She could fall asleep upright so she didn't have pain. As for car seat, that's what we did. We bought the bucket seat and then upgraded to the Britax Boulevard click tight because it's good for 10 years! Love it. It's pricey but my daughter finds it really comfy.

Steriliser for your breast pump parts and accessories.  The microwave ones are cheaper but work just as well. Thermometer if its not included in the first aid.

Sterilizer; thanks for adding! I'll put that on the list under breastfeeding. There's just so many components to breastfeeding *sighs*.

You don't necessarily need a sterilizer. You just need to boil them in hot water. Cheaper and easy. Just put a dish cloth in the bottom so the plastic doesn't accidentally melt.

A good thermometer! You won't believe how many times you take your baby's temp. If you spend time with another person get a second car seat for their car. I got a second one for my mom's car because it was a pain to try and switch the seat each time we decided to take her car.

Also not something you will need right away but besides your big expensive stroller look into a $20 umbrella stroller they are great when baby gets to be about 5 to 6 months old for places like airports, parades/fairs, zoos etc. They are smaller and easy to take places.

A thermometer for the bath! Colour changing ones are really easy to read and keep bath times stress free with worrying if baby will be too hot or cold
