Not dialated...how long does induction last?

Got my cervix checked this morning (ouch!) and not dialated, but being induced next Tuesday for medical reasons. Wondering how long I can expect induction to last, assuming I'm still not dialated when they begin the process. Has anybody been induced when their cervix wasn't ripe, and if so, how long did it take for the baby to come?

I've been induced with all 4 of my kids. I went early in the morning and they started all the stuff shortly after i was there and with in 24 hours they where born. I wasnt dialated with any of mine either. The best part was my longest labor time with all of them where 45 minuets :) Good luck and congrats!!

I have severe asthma that's become a pregnancy complication, as we're always worried she's getting enough oxygen. They just feel she's safer on the outside at this point, as I'll be 39 weeks on Tuesday. My doc says I go to the hospital Tuesday night and they'll put cervadil (I think?) in there to soften up my cervix and it'll stay in there overnight, then in the morning on Wednesday they'll start the labor medications.

I'm kind of just wondering what our chances are of her being born on Wednesday, and if I can expect a long labor. My ex-boyfriend, the baby's father, has to go back to work on Tuesday so he's worried too.

I got induced with my first.. Had to have the passery tablet.. Then the poticin to speed it up.. Was in labour for 60hours had to have vontouse in the end as baby was stressed.. I would def say keep your mind open for epidural as you have more intense contractions! Im hoping you have an easy labour :) good luck x

Well I was induced on the 5th, didn't have her until the 8th, I had assumed induction ment I'd have her asap! (stupidily) but everyone is different. I was like Rachel off friends, I went into be induced, all the other ladies on my ward were induced, had their babies, more came in, had their babies before i even started going into labour. Honestly everyone is SO different.. i'd had so many different inductions done (sometimes one isn't enough) and sooo many cervical sweeps. IT can be a sloooow process so take lots to keep you occupied. My contractions were very very intense and very close together from the start, There was no build up. Like someone said be in open mind for epidural.. I managed to do it with just gas and air until 6-7 cm because I couldn't handle just gas and air anymore. I was induced due to Gestational diabetes and my daughter is now nearly 11 months old.. I am pregnant again and will not be taking up the offer of induction because they induced me with her because of the GD and she was only 6lb 6. The midwife at the hosp even told me to go home and not be induced because she could just tell by feeling my stomach It wasn't a big baby. Youll be fine. If you have any more questions feel free to pop me a comment on my profile or something .. All the best!!! xxx

Thanks, I'm going to hope she's not that stubborn, but who knows...and yes, definitely planning for an epidural, not a huge fan of pain. :)

I was induced all three of mine.  First took 24 hours, 2nd 1 1/2 hours, and third 7 hours.  I had and epidural with my first but they shut it off and no epidural with my other two.

you'll be surprised how much pain you can handle- i'm rubbish with pain. You'll be fine :) Just relax and now you know it could be a little while (it might just be me being unlucky you know, I think 12 women In my ward came in, got induced and left with babies before I started!) all the best, you'll have your baby before you know it, but now, make the most of sleep while you can. :)  xxxx

I'm ready for her, but definitely intimidated by the thought that I have to push something THAT big out of me lol. I'm sure we'll be okay, just gotta get through next week.

I got the cervadil with my first. It worked well but it has to stay in for 12 hrs, & it started up the pain .  I had it put in at 3 pm I gave birth to my baby girl the next day at 1:15 pm. I also had the gel put in w/ my 2nd baby that didn't work ad well I had to have a second dose.

You'll be fine, it's surprising what we can do, (That's why we're the stronger sex ;) )hehe. Have they given you an estimated weight for your baby? And it's true, you forget the pain so quickly the minute you hold them. It's all so worth it, the relief I felt when I held her.. was unbelievable. I had a tear, 11 stitches and a graze, but didn't care, I was being stitched up, having gas and air and just staring at her. I'm excited for you. I can't wait to do it again in January- so It can't be that bad right :) all the best xxxxx

The last time she was measured she was 36 weeks and 6 lbs 5 oz. I know those measurements aren't always the most accurate, but I'm guessing she'll be round 8 lbs at birth. I'm on the small side but her father is not so I wouldn't be surprised if she's a chunky girl lol.

I'm glad you asked this since I'm getting induced tomorrow and hadn't dilated as of yesterday. My doc didn't seem overly confident he would be born within 24 hours but he's letting me opt for non-chemical methods first like a foley bulb and AROM. Good luck!

I was induced with my son... I went in on a Tuesday night for antibiotics and such since I was positive for group b strep.. and Wednesday morning, they broke my water and 7 1/2 hours later he was born. It varies from woman to woman.. All depends on how ready for your body is for labor. At my last ultrasound with him at 36 1/2 weeks, he was measuring 7lb 1oz... I had him when I was 39w4d and he came out 7lb 11oz. He's the chunkiest little baby right now lol
