Not good news at the doc today

I have some not so good news from this morning and was wondering if anyone could help. I had my first Baby appointment this morning and they had to do the ultrasound where they put that thing up your vaginal to get the pics because my uterus is tipped or something. Anyway i went back to the nurses room and she said that she had some not so good news for me. she said they they weren't picking up a heart beat on the ultra sound. she said my uterus was too big for the baby, so maybe it was bigger then died, and is now shrinking. i have to go back in this Thursday for some more tests to see if my whatever them levels are called are going up or down. i am so nervous and so numb. this is my first pregnancy so anything anyone can do to give me advice on what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

I had some bleeding at 9 weeks i was referred at the hospital for a scan, the doc couldnt pick up a heartbeat he even asked if i was actually pregant!!!!! I had a blood test done to see what my hgc hormone levels were, i rang them they said i was high.Went in the next day for another blood test to test my hormone levels, i insisted on a another scan as i was in terminal about it all, this was done by a different doctor he picked up the heartbeat straight away . so dont give up hope x

Hi,

I've has a similar experience to this twice, I don't know if it's the same thing or not, but what I've had is called a missed miscarriage, at both 12 week scans the sonographer was unable to detect the heartbeat and the baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks the first time and 9 weeks the second time around. I've had a D&C both times.

I hope it's not the case with you and wish you luck with your pregnancy.

Take care,

Sinead

While there is a possibility that you miscarried, there's still a very real possibility that you HAVEN'T.  You're HCG levels look really good.  Wait and see if they rise like they are supposed to and if they do even just a little (or even if they don't) insist on a repeate ultrasoun just to be safe.

First of all, i want to thank you all for your support. it is greatly appreciated. i am in the military and away from my family (most of my close military people are either deployed or moved on to another base) so i really dont have anyone to confine in or ask questions. i am really glad i found this place! "LosingMyMindInGA" you said my hcg levels looked good, what about if my last menstral cycle puts me at farther along? will that change anything?

It seems like if your last period was 12/18 you should just be 11 weeks this week, rigth? it seems weird to me that your uterus could be 11 weeks if the sac is measuring 5 weeks...  did a doctor look at your ultrasound, or just the tech?  I have had 2 loses, each at 7 weeks, sac measured about 5 both times...  but they never said anything about my uterus being larger-  just the sac size...

hcg levels can vary for normal pregnancies,  23,000 could be in the normal range for 11 week along...  you should find out tomorrow if your levels have doubled?

I agree with the above poster, the level isn't as important as if they are increasing (almost doubling) and if they don't increase as much as they should, I would still request a repeat u/s....

so sorry you are going through this...  it is a very difficult thing-  I think esp with your first pregnancy...  I lost my very first one too- and it is very confusing-  I also lost my 3rd pregnancy, but that time it wasn't as overwhelming, as I had learned a lot after my first loss...  it was just as painful though...  let us know what the doc says tomorrow.
