OT Want your opinions.....

Only in America did we start naming our daughters masculine names. I posted this on an app on iphone and all i got was "thats a "girly" name. "sounds like a girls name"...... What the heck? I dont know of anyone that naming there sons "caroline"..... maybe im behind or something.

I love the name Alexey. Im debating on whether to name a boy Alexey or "Alexius"...... When pronouncing it (Alexius) it DOESNT sound like ALEXis.its more like "Alexeyus".

This sounded like a vent. lol. sorry if it came out like that. Im not American, Im bilingual, My parents are from another country same as my whole fam , and hubbys fam..... I *know* ppl have a daughter named "alexius" which i sort of think is unfortunate now, bc it seems like "Alexey" (meaning defender of mankind) has all of a sudden become feminine.... Anyways..... sorry for the vent.

i like it personally. im all for unique names..hence ariana for my daughter.
i think you should name him whatever you want too. people will probably shorten it to alex though.
i LOVE alexis for a girl. and i know a boy named julius. some people might think that is feminine but i dont think so at all.

name him whatever you want and people will see him for him. My brothers names are Paris and Dominique. Now whenever I hear those names I think of them, not the girls who have that name:)

Mumita... exactly my thoughts too. There are MANY MANY more girls names then boys names. And when i want to name my son Alexey i have to think about perhaps ppl thinking its a girls name. WHICH IT ISNT. :/ oh well.

I honestly can't stand the androginous names for girls.  I named my son Finley and he goes by both Finn and Finley and some people think Finley is a girls name, I've also met like 4 finleys that are girls.  I don't see it as a girls name at all.

I do think that Peyton is a boy's name, Alex boy's name Alexis could be either.  There are plenty of beutiful girl's names out there, I don't see the reason why people need to use a normally male's name for a girl.

Alexius is manlyy :)
But you know the band Alexis On Fire!! make sure people dont say it like they say thhat... arre you  pronouncing the i as an E? that name is pretty unusual as well...I love unusual names... LOL.

If I ever have a girl, she will be called Peyton which can also be Paighton and be a boys name! ... ??

If you like it, go for it!

I have 3 boys and 1 girl but for some weird reason we went with a gender nutral name for our girl. Taylor. So when people see our childrens names they just assume we have 4 boys. I guess its all a point of view and wheather or not you want your child to be teased. Like naming your boy Sue. There is a song about that so someone must have done it, lol! I personally have never heard a boy named Alexius and would assume it was a girl, but thats just IMO. I have a friend that is naming her baby Julius if its a boy and to me it sounds like a girl name or a drink (Orange Julius) I think whatever you name your baby needs to be something you and he can live with. Good luck with names:)

I like regular old names that are not confusing too. We are looking at names like Kyle, Mason, Alaina, and Ava. But have you heard of the school counselor named Marajuana Pepsi? As long as you don't name your kid that, you should be alright....poor woman! She said it took her a while to get over it (being teased) but now she embraces her name. I just don't want my kid to go through that.

I feel like Alexius is masculine, and the feminine derivative would be Alexis, Lexi, etc. When I think of Alexi/Alexey, I think of Alexi Lalas, the male soccer player. Lots of names are becoming unisex now, but I still feel like the name you've chosen is definitely masculine. We're naming our daughter Lexi, which imo, is feminine. If you like the name, I say go for it! :)

sorry i meant to say Alexey doesn't seem androgynous to me...Alexi maybe but idk..since you're bilingual it's a bit different. there are certain names that are NOT androgynous but America has made them so...like you said

Ash- I agree with you. I love Gender specific ones too. No CONFUSION....

Hence Isabella lol. Im betting this is another girl though. Even tho i refer to the baby as he..... i think its a girl.

use whatever name you want! i'm a firm believer in using names that are gender specific..hence Kahlan (Kae-lynn) for my daughter and Grey for my son. I dont like the androgynous ones very much...no offense to anyone.

I know me neither. I didnt *know* Alexey was considered "unisex" until posting this on that app...... Apparently it sounds like a girls name. Im just bummed bc i love that name.. I gues im going to use it as a middle name....  pooooooo

I've never heard Caroline being used for a boy's name. IMO it doesn't sound right for a boy, and I'd hate to be that kid growing up...

I personally am not a big fan of "unisex" names, although apparently Elijah is. I didn't know that until last year when I saw a girl named Elijah. I don't like having to look at the first and middle name to see if it's a boy or a girl, or having to guess...
