Due dates? Im really lost

So today I had a doctors appt. I have been going to the hospital for a cervical lenght u/s for the past few weeks and all looks well. On Friday I had my last cervical length and also a weight check on the baby. He weighed 2lbs 14oz. When I went to the doctor today he measured my stomach and said I am measuring 31 weeks. I was told at my 18week u/s that I was Due June 22 but that only puts me at 29 weeks 2 days. I am confused because today the doc said that I only have to hold on for a few more weeks.( I ha ve been having horrible contractions as well as an excessive amount of swelling.) I am concerned that the baby is a little smaller than he should be at this point in pregnancy if I am indeed 31 weeks and my doctor induces alot of women at 37 weeks. Could this mean that I may be having my little boy in just 6 weeks I am in shock!!!!!! Any advice or similar situations?

ok thank you prayerful wife. Im still really confused but that def. helps. I really hope he goes by the 31 weeks insted of the 29 weeks, my contractions are only getting stronger and very uncomfortable.

They consider the safe zone 36wks which is the start of your 9th month.  He might mean as long as you make it to the 36th week then they wont stop your contractions anymore and allow you to go ahead and deliver if you go into labor.

I think he is counting by the tummy measurements because how he said just a few more weeks and you will be in the safe zone?

why does your doctor induce at 37 weeks instead of letting you deliver on your own??? Thats kinda weird unless there are problems.

I dont think the baby sounds small.  Now that you're down to the last few weeks this is when you start to put on the majority of your weight.  At this point all of the organs are formed and now the baby is just putting on weight and developing lung maturity!  Normally they go by your u/s and not your tummy measurements b/c most women just carry differently.  On your next appointment confirm with your OB if he plans to induce at 37wks and if so which week is he officially counting you at.
