Mucus plug and bloody show can happen weeks before labor starts. Same as dilatation and thinning. I guess that best sign you can look for is contractions that come in a pattern and get stronger, or your water breaks. I was also told this baby was high risk for early labor (had my first daughter at 37 weeks, she was perfect)... and im now iv made it to38 weeks, been 4cm dilated for 2 weeks had my mucus plug come out and bloody show and contrations daily and im still very much pregnant... so try not to stress yourself, staying relaxed will make a huge differents.
. Drs just guess with what they see, but there is a good chance your beautiful baby will make it past 36, 37, 38 weeks etc :)!! So try to enjoy..  iv been through it too it can be scarey. But have faith :) Good luck

Mucus plug isn't that big of a deal. I have been losing pieces of mine for weeks. Call the doctor if you have painful contractions, or if you have them every ten minutes or so for about an hour. Also, call if you have any bleeding. Another sign is the water breaking. Sometimes it is a flood, but sometimes it is a slower trickle. If you have any severe pains or persistent lower back pain, it would also be good to talk to your doctor.
