what's this?

I am 10 weeks late for my period, I took a positive pregnancy test about 6 weeks ago. I have three children already. This time I have had no pregnancy symptoms atall, apart from some implantation bleeding at around 5/6 weeks. Last tuesday I bled a little, it dripped, but it came to nothing there was no pain or anything alarming. This tuesday morning when I woke up there was blood in my pyjamas, but it looked like it was old blood, there was not so much so I took my time and just went slowly through my day. There was no more to speak of except maybe a little bit of brown when I wiped. Today I went to collect my child from nursery and developed an 'uncomfortable' back on the walk, on the way home my tummy started to tighten - but not really painfull. I went to the toilet to find dark red thick blood on my pad, which I was wearing 'just incase'. Now it seems to be dripping again but it is thick and like port wine in colour, my tummy is starting to pull sometimes in a dull way. My husband can't come home from work, I'm caring for a 4 year old and don't like to rush to hospital, I have to get my 5 and 7 yr old from school in an hour and a half. Does it seem likely that I am miscarrying and what should I be looking for over the next few hours while I wait for my husband to get home?
Thankyou.

Bedrest can be difficult, especially with other little ones around. I hope that everything turns out to be okay with the little one and that you have a healthy 9 months!

I've got healthy bouncing 7 5 and 4 years olds running alover the house --- bed rest has had to turn into taking it slowly!! Doing colouring in instead of running around the garden, I'm doing what I can, but truly what will be will be and I have to attend to what I already have. Thanks for your support.

well I was admitted to the gynae unit and given a scan -- baby measure 12wks 2 days yesterday with heart beat and movement, advised for bed rest and they say they don't know what caused the bleeding and won't do very much about it till I'm 20wks, kind of half hearted treatment really -- but as of yesterday, baby was fine, kind of scared to rely on it though, sort of distancing myself from it. Is that normal?

Thankyou - I'm one of those that would rather have the straight story than false hoping or sugar coated explanations. Next door but one to me is a reverend, his wife works at my childrens school, if I get into trouble I'm sure he will help me out.
Thanks again

Yes you will have a positive test until your hcg drops to normal which can take 2-4 weeks after m/c.

I just heard that a positive test can be taken even after full discharge of pregnancy because it is about the hcg levels and not the childs life -- is this true?

I called my health visitor - she is a very nice lady. She called one of her friends who is a midwife (this was done off the record, because she is the type that go's the extra mile), I have done another test and it is positive still, the midwife she put me in touch with said that because I am having a prolapse it could be blood that is kind of squeezed out as my womb slips down through the process of the day -- she is asking her colleagues about back door routes to get a ring or something like that, she said that if she does a doppler it might not show anything because I'm not so far gone. I'm waiting to hear from her again, she say's she might be able to fit me in for a scan -- now I'm worried about who will have my boys while I'm in there,,,,,,, as for my husband,, does idiot do it?? I doubt it very much :-).

I went to get my boys, I called around but there was nobody could help me -- typical! My husband came home, looked at my pad said that he didn't think anything could be done about it now, couple of hours later he went to the pub!!! I called a help line, they said that I should rest and if the bleeding filled a pad in an hour or if I had alot of pain to call the ER. Bleeding through the night was very light, but dripped from me when I went to the toilet and was in the shower - I called to my husband, he looked and said he was going to work an emergency had arose - I have no clots, the blood is thick and I only have a vague sense of tightenings. I'm very upset, and angry -- seriously condsidering divorce. Doctors don't have an appointment for me till next wednesday ---- aaaaaarrrrggghhh!!!!! I really think that everyone around me wants to see the full dramatic show before they'll even think about helping me, hospital don't really want to see me unless its bad. Maybe I should take a taxi to the next ER along, maybe they have different procedures.

You need to go to the ER NOW! Take your youngin with you and ask someone to pick you older kids up for you. You may even call the school and see if they have an after school program maybe the kids can attend until you husband gets off and can pick them up.

I had a mc about 11 years ago and this is just how it started.  At first I thought my AF was coming, but just really late.  But as the day went on the blood got heavier and thicker.  Then I began getting really large blood clots and stomach cramping from hell.  I was really young and didn't really know what was going on and I was afraid to tell my parents, but I finally had seen enough blood and went to the ER.  They told me that I had a mc and that the baby aborted itself naturally.  I was sad, but I know that it was the best b/c I was only 17 at the time.  I hope this isn't happening to you, but if it is then I hope you get to feeling better soon!  I am now 28 and have 2 beautiful children, a son that is 8 and a daughter that is 4.  I'm now trying for #3, but now that this is a planned pregnancy, it's been so hard getting pregnant.  Hope all goes well for you as it has for me!
