Refuse Induction?

Am I allowed to refuse induction just because my baby went past her due date? Im due next Thursday the 17, and my doctor told me if I do not have her by then she will schedule me for an induction. I've never been induced but just curious about pros and cons if being induced has any? Help me ladies, plz =)

I was induced a few weeks early with my first...only because my water broke...so they admitted me and gave me pitosin. It wasnt right away so to speak...but within the first hour i had mild cramping and they got progressively stronger...so no...its not IMMEDIATE pain... :)

It depends on how they do it, according to how far you have progressed yourself. My sister has had 2, each at 10 days over. One started with cervadil and she started contracting herself overnight since it seemed to get things going enough. With her second, they skipped the cervadil and went straight to the pitocin - she said that one was a bit more of a "shock" since the contractions started more intense, more quickly.

Different providers have different opinions about how to treat VBACs. Some approach them as any other delivery (assuming it has been a few years since the c-section) while others won't even attempt them. Honestly, I would write all these questions down and bring them to your next appointment, assuming you have one! ;)

And I had a c section 5 years ago. Is this why my doctor wants to induce me?

Options are inducing you or ripping your membrane which make you go in to labor about three days after I would prefer the ripping over the induction. Lol I've been induced and it hurled more than normal delivery

I have the option to get induced for a vbac... i just wouldnt be able to get cervadil but from what i understood pitocin was still allowed... it will be 2 years since my last csection but im just going with the elected csection.... if by chance this baby drops (i dont think it will tho) then i seriously consider the vbac but my Dr said theres always a 50/50 chance for a vbac... the earliest would be 1 week before due date and the latest they would allow me is 1 week past... my csection is at 39 weeks :)

My second son was late and I didnt want to be induced but finally after two weeks past my due date the Dr said it was necessary for the health of my son. When he was born he had low blood sugar and needed and IV so they could get his blood sugar to stabilize. If I knew then what I know now I would have liatened to my Dr and let him induce me earlier. I had no complications due to the induction actually it was my easiest delivery but I did have complications due to waiting.

I was 3 days over with my first I got induced. I was having contractions on my own so they gave me pitocin to speed labor cuz I wasn't dilating fast enough. The contractions do come stronger when you are induced, but I had my baby 5-6 hours later with no pain meds. It wasn't not that bad for me, I rather not go over because of the problems that exist past 40 weeks.

My Dr told me I would not get induced because I had a previous c section, it puts too much stress on the scar. I'm really not wanting another c section either!

My drs have a rule...this is what they say... "we'll let you see 40w but not 41w"...my drs sre really cautious and they are great because of that...if your overdue lots of things can happen that can create an issue for baby...im sure your drs have your babys best interest in mind :)

I'm just afraid of another c section. I hate the idea of being cut open again!!! I'm hoping IF I DO get induced it doesn't result in a c section. Pray for me ladies!

I was induced with my first baby, and may be with this one as well. Actually, I am hoping that I will be. I know a lot of people are against it, but if you have kids and things that need to be planned out, vacation time for your spouse etc then its seriously convenient. Thanks to having to be induced due to also going past my due date the first time around, I was able to get my husband to schedule time off so he could stay in the hospital with me (because I am seriously afraid of being alone in places I do not know. I would have never slept if he was not there) and he was able to stay with me for a week or two while I was getting used to having a baby around the house. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the only thing I could eat was a Popsicle and ice chips but otherwise, it was a breeze. I went in the night before, didn't have to rush to the hospital which was very far from my house if I had gone into labor, and by 4 the next day I had a beautiful baby girl. I know my doctor chose this path for me the first time because I was not dilating at all and as it was past my due date, my daughter was getting way too big. He preferred this option to waiting to see what happened and my winding up with a C Section. That may be the same case with your doctor. Personally, I'd choose induction over C section any day! I'm terrified of being cut open like that!

My doc induces at 41 1/2 weeks. However, starting at 40 weeks, she does non-stress tests every 2-3 days.

For me anyway i was booked in 10 days later, i got bumped...which is common to happen so my Dr sent me for an US and a non stress test to make sure baby was okay waiting another day... then i got induced then... my daughter wasnt ever gonna happen vaginally... she never dropped, she wasnt gonna and its the same with my mom and my aunt, but its one of those cases where ya really dont know till you try... my sister on the other hand has had 2 babies and her labours would make anyone jealous...

and Drs can only do a sweep if your dialated enough to get a finger in... i asked if she could try but i wasnt open enough to...

From what i get from the post if baby isnt there  by her due date then they are talking about the options... meaning booking an induction... doesnt mean that day?! right? like its still possible the Dr will book it for the 10 days over or whatever?

talk about pressure!! the majority of babies dont come on their due dates!! most of them after, I dont agree with induction like your describing, generally in australia, they will check bub over at 40 wks, then again at 41 and do a sweep and if nothing happens then around 8-10 days they will talk about induction, most of my babies came around 4-5 days over, I've had 3 on their due date and 1, 9 days early :)

I was told any further than two weeks is unsafe due to the placenta breaking down.  I don't think if you go one day past you should opt for it, but I had a bad experience.  Ask your Dr for more information as why they say they will induce right away. Good luck!

I turned 40 weeks yesterday and my doctor said she doesn't want the baby to stay in longer than 10 days after my due date, but never explained why exactly. But I have an appointment on Monday if the baby hasn't came out by then she said we will talk about our options (which I assume means inducing).

I am in the US and I will be 40 weeks next week Thursday. We'll see what my baby wants. If she doesn't come by Thursday, doctors going to force her out lol

I would definitely refuse if the doctor was suggesting to do it before the baby reached full term and didn't give a good medical reason (e.g., concerned about placenta abruption, etc). As others said, inductions are typically done in North America  at about 10 days past the due date.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely will allow for induction if I go past my due date. I do not want anything bad to happen.

here its standard to get induced at 10 days over... sometimes the induction can take a few days to work depending on what your started on (cervadil can take a few rounds) and i personally wouldnt reccomend going to far past your due date as your placenta can start to get old and not function properly... putting your babies life in jepardy... yes im sure you have the right to refuse but you should really talk to your Dr about your concerns regarding it... and there are situaltions where medical interventions are needed when it comes to delivery... some moms dont go into labour before its too late or some cant deliver their babies(to big for size of birth canal, ect) but you just never know...

This is a rough story but i have to tell it...My BFs cousin refused to get induced... she wanted to keep her orignal due date which was later so she demanded to go off that date... she did go into labour on her own but by then her son was too big for her... she ripped from one end to the other, he broke his collar bone during delivery, not that this is really to do with waitng but the cord was around his neck a few times and it was jsut a really rough go... im almost certain she did it medication free but im not sure if she is gonna have anymore kids?? it was a bad recovery as well... im certain she was on bed rest following for honestly how bad she ripped
