Short Cervix

I was just told by my doctor that my cervix is short and I would need another ultrasound ordered. Why is that an issue?

Yes. I had a cerclage put in my cervix. But it's because I have a bicornuate uterus. I'm 19 weeks. I had it put in at 13 weeks. I usually go into labor at 20 weeks. Nd since we didn't know I got the cerclage and I take 17 oh progesterone shots everyweek . I get those shot for incompetence service . My doc just wants to cover all bases. ..  Do u hv to urinate a lot .. I do.. Every sec. I DNT matter what I eat or drink .

Im going through this as well I had surgery on my cervix at 18 so they wanted to make sure it was staying put to keep my baby in otherwise they said i d have to get a stitch put in so he d stay put till birth time but its not bad i used to get chk d every week now its every month and i ve done fine! They just use the transvaginal ultrasound to exam you take a few pics to get measurements and they ll prolly check the babys HB they have every time on me but like Sehale stated make sure and ask ?s so you know whats going on and understand everything! if you re early in you pregnancy you should be at 3.5- 4cm for you length it does shorten the farther you get I was at 4 and now im at 3.8

Having a short cervix can cause premature labor. It should lengthen some during pregnancy, and if it's not too short your chances for premature labor will be fairly low. Depending on the length you may be out on strict bedrest late in the pregnancy.

They probably ordered another ultrasound to keep an eye on your cervix. Next time you go in, ask for details.
