I refuse, pregnant or not. I don't see a point really. I believe they have the double shots (flu and h1n1) and I don't want either. Namely because you can get the flu shot and it not be effective because they got the wrong strain, and also because the h1n1 is a glorified flu virus.
It should definetly be a choice. I got one this year (my first one ever) and I felt very pressured to get one from the ob. While I don't want to be deathly ill during pregnancy with the flu, I did end up very ill with a cold and bronchitis shortly after the shot...don't think it was coincidental. I don't know if I will get another flu shot again...we will see!
there is no longer mercury in shots since the early 00". Also Thermosil is 46.6% the weight of mercury and is listed as a nuero toxin, it is not absorbed into the rest of the body but goes straight to the cerebal and two other parts of the brain and never leaves. It is used as a perserative for many shots. When Mercury was taken out they did studies to use the thermosil and in the first study 26 of of 26 patients that got it, it was done on termanilly ill people all died in a week after recieving the shot. This was not done in US. Then all studies that were for animal vaccines did not go well and they DO NOT use it in animal vaccines as it is listed as a neuro toxin. I do not have the links to all the studies as some of them were in the form of articles that I researched the resources listed at the bottom. I was told by my sons Nephrologists at Cincinnati Children's Hospital that Thermosil is a nero toxin and given some articles on it. As his kidney desease can be fatal and it was caused by chemicals in a shot he got at age 12. The dr had to by law give the literature to inform us of the risks. I was appauled and knew alot of it but asked why dr's do not give this info to everyone and he said that by law they do not have to becasue they are in good health with no conditions that would have adverse reactions to it normally.
SO, to say that people who don't get it because they are uneducated is wrong! You ahve to learn both the risks and benifits of the shot and the virus. It is making a come back becasue there are so many people coming from other countries with different strains of things. But the fact is that I am educated about it as all the other famiy's I knwo that choose not to! Now as for the mercury in the fish, we do not eat arm raised fish, or fish with out scales becasue of the mercury and my kids never ate fish or things high in mercury until age 5. The brain is developing so fast till age 3. We learn 70% of what we will know by age three believ it or not and that is a crucial time to not introduce toxins in the body. We do not use mercury based deoderants and makeups either!
This was not a poll to attack others but a poll to start discussion, and to ask if we think the GOV has the right to make it mandatory or not. I think it is personal desision to. Also it si against our first amendment rights to force someone too. It would be very sad for a child to have to get a shot or a pregnant mama get one and get sick or die!
I got a phamphlet from Children's hospital on the talk and saw it on the news. I also heard it on NPR radio, it was last year, and I followed it till a while back. I would have to find something again, but I did get another phamplet last week that they will be making more vaccines mandatory for infants and children at the ped. Also my OB had some about it being mandatory now for pregnant woman, I asked a nurse if they really went through with it and she said that our state was in the workings on it and it had not passed yet for the US but was stll supposed to this next year.
I for one see the problem being on not enough votes to pass it. Even the people who get the shot don't want to be forced to, and the ones who have had a negative experience don't want to take the risk. Like some on here said they weighed wether to for each family member as to who needed it. I and my DH have auto immune disorders and I was unable to walk and in a wheel chair for 2 years after my 12 year booster, from a chemical that starts with a "c", I would have to ask my mom th ename I forget it but it is still in the shots. So I have huge risks to weigh. I know people who are allergic to eggs and most flu vaccines are grown in eggs, lots of people do not know that.
Well I do not want to argue but just speak up that I am educated and have researched and me nore my kids have every gotten anything to pass to anyone. We have been around two kids with the measeals at the hospital and none of us got it and that little girl had been vaccinnated for it.
I actually was always so against getting it for my daughter.... BC she doesnt go to daycare, she is with her grandma daily. But i decided i should get one, only bc i work with ppl, and hopefully me having the flu shot will prevent me from bringing home the flu to her. And DANG my arm hurts.
Oops, I meant to vote for getting one but it should NOT be mandatory. I went to the Dr. for my second appt and they asked me if I wanted the flu shot. I haven't had a flu shot in a really long time, I couldn't even tell you when my last one was. I looked at the nurse and said "want the flu shot? No, i do not want the flu shot but since I work in an elementary school with over 600 kids, I probably should." Well another Dr. overheard the first part of my comment and went into an uproar. That made me a little angry since it is my body and I should be able to do whatever I want to do. I did get the flu shot because of where I work but I will not be making my DH or any other family members get it because I don't think it is completely necessary. I haven't had one in probably 10 years and have not had the flu in that amount of time. I was fortunate to have no side affects beyond a sore arm where they gave the shot.
I have always declined the flu shot. Years ago my father had one and got guillain-barre syndrome (confirmed by spinal tap) where he lost sensation and some movement in his legs. It wasn't permanent, but is serious enough that he never had another flu shot, and has had no recurrence of the syndrome. I get mixed reactions from docs and nurses when I refuse the shots for myself and my kids. Some act like I am overreacting and tell me the chances of that happening are so slim. Others seem to think I am doing the right thing. IMO even if the odds are very low, the fact that someone in my immediate family had it makes us more susceptible to it so I'm not taking chances. Also, adding to what others said above, I have seen friends get SO sick right after getting this shot! The sickest they have ever been in their lives and swear they will never get one again. So, those factors are enough to make me steer clear of them.
I'm pregnant and I'm not getting one either. My husband was hospitalized after getting the flu shot 6 years ago. He ended up with pneumonia and was very sick. Needles to say...we are both very reluctant to trust another flu shot. It was very scary. I think it is only mandatory for hospital workers around here.
This is the second year in a row I have NOT gotten the flu shot. Last year I didn't make it in time, and this year since they've combined the two...I'm waiting again. H1N1 is just too new for me still...
As for DS and baby-to-be, I don't think they should be introduced to a vaccine like this until they're older. MAYBE when they start school, BUT if you start vaccinating them against something like the flu, they're not gonna build up an immunity on their own.
I dont think they should be mandatory its a personal choice whether or not to get one! I have always said i didnt need one cus i dont get sick like that but this is the first flu season i will be bk working and in retail AND im training for pharmacy so i decided to get one and see what happens! I didnt have any reaction to it at all! a lil redness on the arm but thats listed as what happens so no biggie! And im hoping i dont get sick for reals if they are some very sick patients coming to the pharmacy for meds!
Could you tell me where to find info on this CDC maybe making flu vaccines mandatory? I looked it up and can't find anything on a government website
I am the same as Ashleen. I have an adverse reaction to the flu vaccine. Last year my sister had one and ended up hospitalized for it. Both her, my mother and I were told NEVER to get a flu vaccine again. I think it is every persons individual choice to get a vaccine or not. Especially with the flu vaccine.
I do however get all other vaccines with no problem and would never NOT vaccinate my children. I truly feel that most vaccines out there are standard for all children for a reason. Things like measles and mumps can be stopped/prevented. But now are making a come back because people who are uneducated decided to not vaccinate. If you don't vaccinate bc of mercury than I better not see you ever eat fish bc ALL childhood vaccines is equal to the amount of mercury in less than one can of tuna. Ok sorry about the rant. Vaccines are good!
I did not get one when I was pregnant through flu season and I do NOT think it should be mandatory. I have odd reactions to certain medications and even the thermisol-free vaccines can cause a similar reaction, but because the reaction is not "life-threatening" it would not qualify me for an exemption...but I would be terrified to risk the reaction, especially while pregnant, because it requires high doses of benedryl and valium to treat...obviously not safe while pregnant in those doses. So yeah..I didn't get it. my husband does because he works at a University, but as a SAHM whose kids are NOT in daycare, I think that we can be fairly safe if we take the right precautions. As my kids get older we may explore the option of them getting the shot, but they obviously run the same risk as I do because we share genes...so it's going to be a long careful thought process for us.
I am not against vaccines, just to clarify. I was vaccinated and both of my kids are being vaccinated or are current....but that's childhood vaccines. the flu vaccine I am up in the air about, mostly because as they're released each year they obviously aren't exposed to the years of study because they CAN'T be by virtue of being "new strain" vaccines...so they're a bit scary to me.
sorry typed wrong the third one is not getting one and do not think it should be mandatory
