So angry!!!

I'm supposed to have an appointment with a maternal fetal specialist.  He wouldn't see me until I saw a hematologist/hemophilia center for a hereditary disorder I have.  Saw the hematologist.  They want mri's of my lungs and brain to rule out a bleed, and a bubble echo to rule out a hole in my heart (can happen with my disorder).  They want to do all of this with the mf specialist appointment in one day.  #1 I have to travel 2 hours to this place. #2 because I get so exhausted so fast they thought getting it done all at once would be easier.  I LOVE the hematologist and the hemophilia center, they were awesome!  The mf specialist took forever to get ahold of me.  I actually had to call them!!  Then they said "we'll have to find your chart".  On hold for 10 mins.  She came back and said my chart was buried in the back (wtf?).  Also the earliest they'll see me is in 3 weeks.  That means I won't have a prenatal visit for almost six weeks!!!! My normal ob was thinking they'd get me in asap because of my issues. I went off... told her 3 weeks won't do because I need my anatomy scan (I'm 20 wks tomorrow), and I need all this other testing to rule out a potentially deadly problem!!  She literally said " oh, well... I guess I'll see what I can do."
Like I didn't even matter.  Called my normal ob, they're pissed.  The doc was out delivering a.baby (whats with all these pregnant women lol jk).  The nurse who is awesome said she was very upset with the situation and is going to see if they can get me in for a visit and an u/s.
I'm about to tell the specialist he can shove it.  Aaarrrrrgggg!!!!

I have that problem too, and the closest one is across state lines and they have issues taking my insurance.

Usually they are pretty good at getting people seen if they are going through your Dr.  I'm surprised they aren't.  I understand there being a wait when you  are in a rural area, less Dr.s and more patient's, but it should be a triage circumstance and there should be leeway for urgent cases.

I'm in a pretty rural area so the only specialists are all at least 1+ hour away.  Plus this was one that took my insurance.

My ob, hematologist, and my case nurse from the hemophilia center have all called the specialist about this.  It's getting frustrating.

With my first pregnancy I was sent to a perinatologist near the end after a questionable u/s.  They got me in that afternoon, about 2 hours later.  I'm sure that's not the norm, and it was likely because my ob called them and got me in.  I've noticed that it can make a big difference whether we call as patients to get an appointment, or our Dr.s call and stress the importance of a timely appointment.  I hope your OB calls and gives them hell and gets you in sooner.  Good luck!

I have no experience with a specialist while pregnant, but for the most part had a fairly simple pregnancy. I'm very sorry that they treated you like that, it's awful that they would act that way. Are there any other specialists in your area that you can see?
