My husbands aunt got us a bassinet for our baby shower that is on Thursday, I know about the bassinet cause I picked out the one I wanted :D but we have a crib also that my husband bought. Its convertible, the bassinet holds up to 15lbs. But we more just wanted it for when she is newborn and its easy to wheel with us in the living room and always have her close by when needing to clean and she's sleeping. So I would say get a crib also. I'm a ftm, I'd rather have it. Wal-Mart has some for $99 and I got mine at babies r us for a really good deal :D
I got my bassinet for 15$ on craigslist brand new, I'm thankful for it because the crib is just too big for her and she's right next to me while I lay in bed. She's only 3w though and is almost too big for it. Crib is never a waste of money unless you plan to co sleep. Especially the ones that convert, great investment
I got a deal on my bassinet. I wanted a bassinet because I was told its not safe to have a newborn in the bed with you. So if you want a crib maybe wait till the baby is a little older. Either way I'm going to have both I want the baby in my room while really little. Thats what a bassinet is for. Cribs come lateranyways

Agree with turtle414 .. the only plus side to a bassinet is that its smaller but the downfall is them growing out of it in a couple of months.
My daughter slept in a pnp for 3 weeks and then moved to her crib, which converted to a bed. I cannot fathom that a crib is a waste of money. Seems like a bassinet would be.
I wanted to get a bassinet just to kind of save space but aunt is giving her old stuff and said she used a co sleeper and said it was soo mich easier and portable if she needed to go in the kitchen or something and needed him to be with her. She said she used it with him until he was like 6 or 7 months old. And never even attached it to her bed.
Bassinet is great for newborns, but the older they get. .. a crib is better suited unless you plan to co-sleep.
I got a homemade craddle for baby shower so baby could sleep in our room. Then we moved her to crib when she could roll over.
I have a bassinet from my last pregnancy. Waste! Lol it was cute & convienient up until 5 or 6 months when she started to roll over & pull up & exeeded the weight limit. I will def b buying a crib for this baby. Thing about cribs, choose the crib that grows with your baby, get your moneys worth. Like, the kinds that turn into a toddler bed then into a full bed. Hope this helps you
Hmm well im buying a crib that can convert into a toddler bed & then a full size bed that way I can use it for longer but if you already have a bassinet im not sure if you'll really need both
