thank you guys so much N no i DONT use drugs at all. i dont remember when i did them
it was really realy into my pregnancy.
As claire said, they want to do an amnio. The amnio can also serve as a way to do a DNA test before birth. So not only will you find out if baby has Down, you'll know who the father is and you'll know their gender.
Now the reason doctors do amnios is so that in the case your baby does have a genetic problem you can choose to terminate. If termination is not something you'd ever think of doing, don't risk it.
Also, Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder. Drinking and doing drugs isn't going to give a baby Down Syndrome. But your baby could have other problems or disorders with exposure to drug abuse. Usually these problems occur when the mother consistently does drugs, not if she's only done the drugs a couple of times.
So your baby may be just fine, provided you don't drink or do anymore drugs.
what they want to do is and amninmocentosis (sp) short is amnimo is gives u 100 percent certainty if your little one has downs i have had one and they aren't that bad the dr sticks a very very thin needle in your tummy then a syrenge (sp) takes the fluid out its relatively easy procedure. it takes more time to get u preped than the actual procedure. as far as concieving its hard to tell the exact date since sperm can live in there for a couple days
You would have conceived roughly between the third to fourth week of March, but it is really hard to tell, unless you know how long your cycles run. Normally, women ovulate approximately 14 days after their period, if they had a 28 day cycle. As for the amniocentesis, you are in the the window of time that they are usually conducted (I believe 18-22 weeks?), so you would want to take care of that sooner, rather than later, if you choose to go this route. They will definitely be able to tell if the baby has any genetic problems with this test. Do you know when you took the drugs?
If its a question of paternity the only way to figure out would be a paternity test once the baby is born. As for checking the babies fluid if there is a chance for down syndrome I would recommend testing for it so you know what to expect. Just my personal opinion. Also, I think you need to tell your boyfriend what is going on. If its a possibility that this is or is not his child and may or may not have down syndrome he needs to know. Honesty is the best policy.
