Register for everything you need. Some people will follow the registry and some people will just go and buy what they think it cute, but hopefully they give you gift receipts because sometimes you get so many blankets and too much clothing of the same size and realize that infant sized clothing only goes up to 8 lbs and some babies never wear it! and also its nice to have clothes of all diffrent sizes so register for diffrent sizes. I waited until after my baby shower to buy things. I did start buying a pack or two of diapers and wipes every week when I went to the store in diffrent sizes and ended up not having to go out and buy any diapers for the first year! After the baby shower is over you will know what you need and you can go to your baby registry and buy what no one bought. If you buy too much ahead of time you might end up with too much stuff and regret having spent your own money on things you didnt need to buy. I would also say if you do buy things consider keeping tags and receipts so you can exchange them if you get to many of them. Baby showers are fun, just sit back and relax, eat some good food, enjoy the games and have a blast opening up all the cute little baby things!
I found that people like to buy you the cute stuff, so i bought the sheets, mattress covers, etc myself.
The babies r us registry is AMAZING. My grandma had 11 children, so i have plenty of long distant aunts, uncles & Dozens of cousins. The registry will really come in handy for me bc many of my family wont make it to the baby shower. Good source (:
Register for everything you think you might need...high chairs and car seats as well as smaller essentials like baby bath tubs and diapers...the list goes on and on. If you go to a place like Target, they'll set you up and give you a very fun registry gun :D, and then you can register for all sorts of great stuff. I've had some people not follow the list, but several people so far have either gotten me things I registered for or gotten me target gift cards. I've had two smaller showers so far with coworkers and friends, and have my big one April 7th...whatever people get you will help, so go ahead and register for what you want. Interestingly, so far I've found that guys are a lot more likely to use the registry list, so maybe invite some guy friends lol. My uncle bought me an expensive car seat so he could get out of coming to the actual shower. :P
I got clothes and blankets. I bought one blanket when I found out what we were having. It was soft and fuzzy, and then we got a zillion more blankets. Funnily enough, her favorite blankie is the one I bought her. The only thing we needed was diapers, wipes, and bath essentials. That's ALL I registered for, and only two people followed my registry. Everyone else got me whatever they wanted. So, needless to say, I still ended up buying diapers and bath wash. Lol.
I also played games at my shower, and they were games I had picked out to play, and they were a hit.
I bought my big items and continued to buy clothes and other things.
Go to target or babies r us if you haven't done so already. I registered at both to give more variety to everyone since i'm having 2 baby showers. Expect to get clothes, pampers socks, blankets, bottles, burping cloths, toys and etc. its my first pregnancy but I've been to several baby showers and everyone had been different. Some play games some don't. It ask depends on who is throwing it for you.
