belly button dirt

My belly button is just about all the way out now. And there's some dirt in it that I can't get out. It's really bugging me! My fiance said it is just stuff left over from the umbilical cord from when I was a baby but I dont know.

I've tried hot water and soap.. any suggestions?

Did you recently have a baby? I had the same thing after I had Noah, it was like the dark skin from my Linea negra dried up in there and needed to be cleaned out, it isn't stuff from when you were a baby lol, silly men. I used a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol it got it right out. It may keep coming back for a week or so.

I just went through the exact same thing!  I have a really, really deep belly button, but now that I"m 37 weeks pregnant (and my belly is measuring 41 weeks) I could see something really dark in my belly button (I know gross).  But it was very hard and hurt a little when I tried to pry it out with tweezers.  My sis and I guess that it was left over umbilical cord that somehow fused to my skin.  But the past couple of weeks as my belly grew, I could see it really was either very dead skin with no feeling except deep into my belly when I pulled.  Finally, tonight I just got sick of it I felt all dirty knowing it was there, sticking out a bit...I yanked it out.  It hurt a little, but no blood and voila...it clearly was dirt of some kind...and I'm thinking blood from my c-section 2 years ago...

I immediately searched on-line for answers (too embarrassed to ask the doc about it)...This was the only singular post in the whole world wide web that matched up...soooo relieved to see someone else out there with the same disgusting issue!!!  Thanks for posting!

Hi,  Try using a Q-tip with a little bit of soap on it.  It might work.

Good luck
