Question

My wife and I had a name picked or our son and now after sharing at christmas and getting negative comments we are not sure. I wanted to see what other people thought un-bias. They are in no particular order.

I like Kai and I know a teen boy named Kai. He is a really well adjusted kid so It makes that name really resonate with me. I appreciate you wanting opinions but it really is your choice. I think any of the names you have chosen will be perfect for your child. Maybe save a couple and name him when he arrives.

I voted for Dexter.  Totally unique and sounds like an adorable litle boy. :)
I like Kai, too.  That would be my second choice.  There're all nice, though, and I agree with everyone else.  It's YOUR choice, and your family will come to love the name no matter what once it's associated with their little darling.

I say go with what you want and ignore everything else. We aren't telling anyone what we pick out for names bc we don't want to hear anyones stories or comments.

You should name your baby whatever you want to, because he's your baby. Don't let anyone influence your decision just because they are family.
I voted Brennan because that has always been a personal favorite of mine. I would have loved to consider it as a name for my son, but his father's name is Brandon, lol. But besides the fact that I like the name, I think it's one of the normal-yet-unique names that is not likely to get him made fun of later in life.
I can't help but assiociate the name Dexter with a computer nerd--sorry, that's just what comes to mind when I hear that name. I suppose it has something to do with that movie "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes." Then there's also that creepy tv show out about a serial killer named Dexter.
I don't really like Kai because it reminds me of Kaa the snake from "The Jungle Book." Plus I don't think it flows with the middle name Connor--too many /k/ sounds going on.
And I have to agree with julianovak about the name Drayton. It sounds like Dracula, or drapes.
I think Brennan is a name that will sound great as your son ages as well. I can't really picture an old man of say, 75 years old, with the name of Dexter, Drayton, or Kai.

Sorry i sounded harsh, :o) Depending on where you live, maybe those names are popular, here they arent, and for sure my son would get made fun of with drexter/Kai/Drayton

I voted Brennan, It sounds like an actual name... Dexter reminds me of a nerd from tv.... Drayton sounds like a dracula sort of thing.... and Kai is strange too, also how is someone going to know HOW to "pronounce" it, they wont be able to and you'll get annoyed everytime.. You dont want your kid being made fun of Regardless of how "unique" you want your child to be.... Unique usually = made fun of..... Sorry, thats how kids are.... Im being TOTALLY honest here. and i told you exactly what comes to mind when i read those names..... I wouldve said this to my closest friend too, not bc i dont know you, just what comes to mind.... Brennan is nice though!

They are all nice choices. Go with what feels right. Believe me, everyone has an opinion on what to name your kid. My sister hates the name we chose, another sister is upset that we had Audrey on reserve and didn't use it when she could have, my mom prefers Ava Alexis over Ava Mae, and his mom wants us to name our daughter Aiden! LOL! You can't please everyone - you can only please yourselves. Someone this past weekend made a negative comment about the name we chose and now my hubby is second guessing our choice. It made me feel terrible that he is questioning the name we love so much. I feel like it belongs to her and now his family is trying to taint the name. After we discussed it, we both know that it doesn't matter what anyone says. We like it and that's all that counts.

Last week a lady at church asked what we are going to name our daughter - I said Ava Mae. This lady's mother (at least 90) says "I like the name Ava, but Mae is a terrible name!" I replied "Mae is my middle name and it's a great name! To each their own." But I felt like saying "Oh, well if Janis' mom doesn't like the name, we are gonna change it NOW!!!!" LOL

I personally like Kai. If you already had a name picked though, go with it. It's your child not your families.

It really frustrates me when family members give negative comments when it comes to baby names.... This is your baby, if other people don't like it then screw them..... It's your baby :-) I love Dexter and Kai :-)
