cervix checks

I went to l &d yesterday morning due to contractions & pain..the nurse checked my cervix said i was completely closed & not dilated which is what i expected (im 30 wks) when she did it it didn't hurt but all day today it feels really tender down there, is this normal or the start of dialation? Also when do u start dialating & when do most ob start checking to see if you have dialated?

I was dilated to 1 cm at 30 weeks, my ob doesn't check for dilation until 37 weeks tho ( full term) and there are a lot of obs who won't check until 38 weeks or even 40 weeks, it all depends on your doctor.

Most obs check at 36w unless you're having issues with preterm labor. When you start dilating just depends on your body and the pregnancy.
