checking yourself?

So this pregnancy I've experienced bleeding and lots of painful Braxton hicks contractions. Then at my last ultrasound I was told I have a short cervix. My midwife isn't very worried because I've already given birth at term and I'm already in my third tri, but I was nervous enough to check my cervix.
It's still thick and hard so I'm a bit relieved! I don't like cervix checks but I don't mind doing them myself just for peace of mind. Does anyone else do this?

I just googled it to be honest. Your cervix feels like the tip of your nose, texture wise. I'll probably check myself weekly until I'm in the safe zone just to make sure I'm not thinning or dilating too much.
If you're going to check yourself, scrub your hands all the way up to your elbow. This isn't masturbation (although you should have clean hands for that as well) and you don't want too risk getting any infection on your cervix. I personally also wipe down my vagina before checking just to be extra safe.
I'm not saying anyone should check themselves! Talk to your doc/midwife first and get their okay.

I didn't with my first cause wouldn't have a clue what I was looking for and probably wouldn't be able to reach it even if I could.
