congenital heart defects

Hello ladies! i just wanted to stress the point to make sure you ask about the baby's heart at your 20 week appointment, also known as to when they do the anatomy scan. I lost my first son 6 days after his first birthday due to heart issues. He was born with 3 chambers instead of 4 and many other heart related issues. He went through multiple heart surgeries before the age of 1. His condition wasnt recognized until he was 2 weeks old, but can easily be found if the Drs look and view your babies heart over carefully. Make sure to ask questions like: is there 4 chambers? does baby have regular heart beat? does the blood flow look normal to and from the heart? does the great arteries looked position in the correct areas?

i am now pregnant with my 3rd and get the anatomy scan done next week. ill be sure to ask these questions! :) just trying.to help you mommies in advance! good luck ladies!

sorry for your loss and thanks for giving info on this issue ,in my pregnancy there was a risk of heart problems with the baby because of sua (single umbilical artery issue) so baby's heart was checked and rechecked ,all 4 chambers and blood flow was seen and thankgod everything was fine with her.

good luck for your anantomy scan.

Im sorry to hear about your loss. My son was also born with the 3 chambers instead of 4 they found it very early on. He is now about too be 8 in april, thankfully with yearly check ups it has separated its self almost into four chambers,we will be having another scan in april. I do strongly advise having your babies heart checked. Its a scary thing to hear. Good luck ladies.

It was just congenital heart defect awareness week, and since I live where one of the top children's hospitals are in Canada they've been saying to make sure and double check and letting all to-be mothers know! Knowing about heart problems right at birth prevents other problems from happening too it's very important :)
My nephew has HLHS so I asked them to double check my baby's heart, thankfully all is well! :)
