I am 39 weeks and 1 day and I went to the dr today and she said i am 3 cm dilated and could feel the babys head. Could it still be a while before I go into labor?

My dr said checking for cervical dilation is not an indication that labor is near. If it was, my baby would already be here, lol. I'm 34 weeks and 1cm dilated and 30% effaced, and yes they can feel babys head already. Its completely normal to either be dilated or not as your stage in pregnancy. Its just your bodies way of preparing for birth. Sometimes you can be dilated from very early on and still go to 40 weeks. I did that with my second pregnancy.
