Labor but no mucus plug?

Is it possible to go into labor without losing your mucus plug? I'm only 36 weeks, and I know its early and could still lose it but I'm just curious. I have had a lot of discharge lately (sorry tmi) and I was wondering if that could be it or not? Its only every now and then I'll have a ton of discharge all at once then no more for a few days. I've been told that some women don't even lose their mucus plug, their water just breaks and they go straight into labor and I didn't know if this was true or not?

Your water cannot break without losing your plug. However you can lose your plug in itty bitty pieces and never know and then your water breaks.  But labor can start yes without it coming out first. Odds are your discharge if its snotty could be little bits of your plug.
