Hi, I am a Nutrition major, and I would like to add a bit of input here. It is true that having orange juice will help increase your iron absorption if you are using iron supplements. You just have to be careful though, because it needs to be juice that is high in vitamin C. Vitamin C is really what helps you increase your iron absorption. Also, I would say stay clear of dairy products, and other foods with Calcium in it, such as broccoli. You would be surprised at the number of dark greens that contain calcium! I would say the easiest way other than taking supplements to get iron, would be to increase your red meat intake, as red meat is rich in iron. Eating meat in general is great for anemia, as the type of iron you get in meat is much easier to absorb than the kind you get from plants. Remember everything is good in moderation, stay clear of calcium when trying to absorb iron, and use vitamin C to boost your iron intake! I hope this helps.

I'm anemic too. Same thing happens to me. Not much you can do besides taking the pill. Last pregnancy I didn't drink juice and was even more tired. I hate juice!!! This pregnancy I drink a lot of juice because of the natural sugars. It helps with my energy. Also, rest and not over doing to much. Eat spinach, kale, and anything that has high iron and fiber.
I used to be extremely anemic for a long time before pregnancy, and it's all about the diet. I started researching foods high in iron, and made sure to work them in daily, and since I've done that, I don't even need iron anymore. When you do take your iron pills, drink some orange juice, as the vitamins in it help your body absorb the iron better, and instead of taking it all at once, split the dose into twice a day. That helps your body absorb it more usefully also. But definitely research the foods, and try to work them in as much as you can. Hope this helps!
