It doesn't hurt to break the water, the intense contractions that follow is when it starts to hurt like hell !!
I had a great induction it didn't hurt when they broke my water but I still freaked out because of all the water I was just emotional though it felt uncomfortable
They said its not supposed to, that it feels the same as when they check your cervix for dilation. I actually had a septum on the opening of my cervix that was making it impossible for the dr to break my water. It took an hr and half and it was BAD. The dr almost called off my induction. But I never knew about the septum on the opening of my cerbix and after giving birth they did local surgery to remove it. So dont expect my experience mommas!
Does it hurt when they break your water?
Yep that's correct I was induced my first baby lol or helps you be better prepared instead of your water breaking out of no where
Also. The hook they break your water with will/can graze the top of babys head. My daughter had a little scratch on her head and I was so worried something had gone wrong til the staff told me its normal and from when they break the water. So dont worry there!!
Once youre in your gown and situated in bed they will take a towel that is heavily folded and slide it under your rear. After they start you drip bag, They take a hook that looks very close to a crochet hook and latch your water bag. It should instantly break with a little pressure (I cant tell you since my dr told me I had the worst experience hed ever seen his whole practice). You will feel a gush of warm jelly-ish liquid and then they will connect the pitocin to your bag and probably start you at a 2. My nursing staff increased my pitocin by 2 every 30min. So it started at 2 and 30min later they put it to 4 and so on (pitocin will not go above a 20). As the pitocin increases your contractions should intensify (which is what helps move dilation along). Every 2 hrs they should do a cervical check and they will update you on your progress. Your water will also continue to leak out so be sure to tell the nurses when you need a towel change so it doesnt start to stink or make you uncomfy. Sorry its long but hope it helps ease your mind.
