I was planning on Davis hospital in Utah again. That's where I had my daughter. They offered water birth then but I was worried about the cost of the birthing tub (hospital didn't provide one, you had to supply your own) if I ended up 'needing' an epidural or something. I really wish I had gone for it!
I just looked it up and both hospitals in my area don't support water birth and I have to give birth at a hospital so no water birth for me! I will be asking about bathing during labor though!:)
Medicaid is one of the insurers that doesn't pay for water births, they work with tier 2 hospitals and doctors
Does medicaid cover water birth? Does anyone know?
Wait! My only option is a birthing center. But it also has tubs. Where you giving birth?
I'm pro water birth too. I'm on the fence about whether to do it or not. My hospital no longer supports it so I'd either have to delivery at a birthing center or at home, neither of which my hubby is comfortable with.
Omg im so pro water birth!!!! My first was supposed to be water but water broke n i was 36 weeks. So i was a risk. =( n this time I'm already predicted to go in this month n I'm due next month.....do it!!!! Pro: baby would love water, your labor (i herd) will fell less pain. Also you'll get cleaned right up instead of having not to move for two hours after.
Pros
less pain
less risk/severity of tearing
buoyancy from the water is soothing
possible easier transition for baby
Cons
possibility of baby aspirating on water
Post natal hemorrhage is harder to diagnose
must move immediately after delivery to check for damaged tissue
