Can't poop =[

Sorry for TMI - I'm 14 weeks, and I have suffered from severe constipation throughout the entire pregnancy.
I drink plenty of water (2-3 litres per day), I eat heaps of fresh fruit and vegetables, I eat wholemeal bread and lots of grains. I exercise daily.
Nothing has helped. I just spent an hour in the bathroom struggling to go - I can go over a week without a poop, and when I do finally go it hurts and seems to get stuck half way through.
Can I use a mild laxitive or stool softener safely during this stage of pregnancy?

could also be caused from the prenatal vitamins. My daughters doc told her to go ahead and take childrens flintstone chewables, two at a time and that would be fine. Might wanna ask your doc about those.

My last pregnancy i had the same problem and i took docusate sodium (colace-stool softner) it was in this little booklet of approved medications from my Dr but i agree with the others that you still need to run it by your Dr :) i know how aweful of a feeling that is and definitely from the sounds of it you need some assistance!

I was having the same issue because of too much iron so my midwife said to take my prenatal every other day instead of daily with a fish oil capsule which has solved my problem. I feel your pain I went without for 5 days and it was horrible. Good luck

My doctor told me I could use metamucil and it helped alot he also told me to stop prenatals and take flinestone vitamins because the amount of iron in the prenatals made me constipated :(

My doctor said it was fine to take milk of magnesia because it's stimulant free and this helps a lot. It doesn't taste great but hold your nose n drink a lot of water lol to get the taste out! My dr also said I could add fiber to my foods or drinks as in fiber one the powder kind.

Ask your doctor about taking extra magnesium too. My midwife recommended it to me and it also helps you sleep. I took some at night in powder form before bed and didn't have anymore issues with constipation or insomnia. Also, some foods that are high in magnesium are artichokes, almonds, black beans, pumpkin seeds and even tomato paste! There are lot more foods too you can research on-line. But...call your doc to make sure that it is safe for you.

Stool softners are fine...I actaully take a prenatal with a stool softner in it...I've never taken a laxative during pregnancy..I think they are ok once in a while, but just not all the time..;-)
