I was working for a retail store, I was unexpectedly out for 3 or 4. I have a doctors note for being out. But there still letting me go? How could they do that?

Were you a full time employee for more than one year? If not you are most likely not covered under FMLA (depends on your state). It's totally crappy, but even with a Drs note, the employer does not have to keep you unless you have sick/personal leave to cover your time.
