They put an IUD in when I was pregnant!!!

In 2004 I decided that after having my two little boys that i wouldnt want any more children for a while and was advised that a merina iud was a good option for me.
I went ahead and was taken into the hospital to have it put in, when i woke up the pain was so bad but they thought i was overeacting and sent me home with panadol and told to just rest and that it would get better in a few days! i felt horrible anyway i went home and only bled slightly was told i would bleed a fair bit! the pain was just as bad or worse in the next 5 days so went to dr and he said well if it causing you this much pain let just take it out!
so i said yea go for it please!! anything to escape the pain!
anyway when he tried he couldnt find the strings and said i had to go to hospital, anyway it was a wekend and not many drs on so they referd me to a ob-gyn in town that was open and agreed to look at me free of charge!
we trudged down there with 2 little boys in toe and he couldnt find the strings either so did ultrasound and said your 12 wks pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i broke down how could this be>???????????
the urine test in the hospital was neg but they didnt do a  blood test or ultrasound b4 putting the iud in!!!!!!!
so he told us chances were not great and that most likely if it didnt perferate something i would go into labour before 24 wks!!!!!!
i was a mess i now had morning sickness and wa sin alot of pain all we could think about was if the iud moved it could kill me!
With much heartache and pain i decieded to have a medical termination the following week on their advice and i still miss our baby and somehow think its all there fault!!!!! they should have done blood test b4 inserting iud!
anyway yrs have past but pain hasnt and i wanted to finally vent my pain and anger to someone!
we remeber our tiny baby every yr and miss her like u wouldnt beleive!!!!!! (we think was girl)
Just for my mind has anyone been pregnant with IUD? And had normal baby?

they put a mirena IUD in my cousin when she was pregnant too.  the figured it out a lot faster and got it out and she was ok and the baby was too but they are in no way doing a good job of running good pregnancy tests before putting them in.  they should be running bloodwork.

Not one person will know what i went threw that day i gave her up to this day i torture myself with thoughts of it all, but thankyou for giving me hope :) i know she will always be with me and this makes me strong yet soehow this sort of thing will always make you feel so along thanks for all ur kind words xx

thankyou so much i really havent been able to talk to many ppl about it thanks for your comments  i feel maybe it wasnt all my fault now i guess a part of me will always wonder if i did the right thing but then again i will never know so cant change it i guess,

I'm really really sorry this happened to you. But you have to stop blaming yourself. There was nothing you did wrong and thinking about the "what ifs" will only intensify your grief and anguish. Keep your baby close to your heart, but don't keep holding the blame and guilt! You didn't know you were pregnant when you got the IUD!

Oh my gosh, this is horrible. I am so sorry that you had to go through this. I too would feel like it was the hospitals fault, they should have been more thorough.
