iron levels

So last week I had my glucose and iron checked, and my drs. Office called to notify me that my iron levels are really low, but then she used the words mild. Anyway, the receptionist said I needed to take an over the counter iron supplement daily, and since I really have no source of income right now, I ask if they could prescribe them, that way my insurence could pick it up. The receptionist who called just kept saying to go get an over the counter supplement, even when I asked if just taking the nature made brand would be ok, so my question. Is do any of you have to take iron pills with your prenatal, what what kind are you taking??

My prenatals have iron in them.

I would also call the doctor's office back and ask the nurse again to prescribe them, explaining to her that you need the insurance company to pick them up and they will do so if it's a prescription.

I take iron for anemia. I always just get the off brand of ferrous sulfate iron supplement. Only costs like $3 dollars for a month supply. You can ask the pharmacist at whatever store they often will give u one thats behind the counter for cheap.
