steady drop in BBT

Not sure I am posting this in the right place but we have been trying for a baby for four months now and I have decided to start charting my temperature. This month after a dip to 36.1c I had a spike to 36.5 so guessed that ovulation was on the day of 36.1 but since the spike my temperature has steadily dropped going from 36.5 to 36.4, 36.3 and now 36.2. Does anyone know what this could mean. I thought it was supposed to stay high wether pregnant or not until your next period??

any help would be great, I am so confused. I have also been checking my CM and am sure that I have already ovulated as I had EW mucus two days before the dip? thanks

Well just posting an update, My temperature has been up and down a few degrees but not dropping anymore and today I did a pregnancy test and found out that I am pregnant!! So god knows what was going on, maybe I was temping wrong or maybe my body just wasn't conforming to the norm but I hope this might give reassurances to others who experience the same thing!

I think maybe my thermometer isnt the right one to use, it is a head one which I didnt buy especially for this. My temperature now is staying steady at around 36.2 and 36.3. I did have Egg white mucus (I think!) but only for one day but I am concerned that maybe I am not ovulating at all because your temperature is supposed to stay up after ovulation? Mind you I am not sure what my temperature was at the start of my cycle because I hadn't started straight away. However I am sure that I am usually around this temperature which means that for the whole month it hasnt really risen at all!  I am wondering if the birth control pills I was on have messed my body up abit. I will see how I go for the next few cycles tracking properly with the help of fertility Freinds and then maybe see the doctor. Oh well, at least it means I can have a drink at Xmas!!

I would guess that you haven't ovulated yet. Spikes of a few tenths of a degree are really common and don't mean anything unless it's over .4 degrees higher than your last 6 temps and then stays high.

Also where are you taking your temp? And are you taking it at the same time every day? I found that the most consistent place to take mine was vaginally (too many cold spots on the mouth and too hard to measure the exact same place every day). Also my temp tends to rise .2 degrees every hour even while sleeping, so I frequently had to adjust my numbers to keep them accurate.

I've been charting for the past 7 or  8 months and found that the best way to predict ovulation is having eggwhite CM and using an OPK. The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" really helped me learn how to interpret my chart since mine usually doesn't follow the normal pattern. Also taking a B6 supplement really helped regulate my temps.

Hope that helps!

I also use that site too, it is so easy! You are more patient than I am! Have they given you anything to regulate your period?  My friend was on something to help her regulate and she concieved w/in 6 mos.  Be something to check into.
Good luck!

I haven't tested yet ... My AF was only due yesterday (still no show) and I ovulated somewhat later, because of the clomid, I think ... so I'm giving it till Friday.  If AF still doesn't rear her spiteful head, then hopefully I have some good news to share.

Perhaps I'll be 3rd time lucky!

Thanks for the replies, yes I have just found Fertility Freinds and am going to start using that now. Nellybeans I was also on birth control and came off it at the beginning of August. I had weird periods for the first two months and still not completely regular so maybe my body is still sorting itself out. AAHH this is driving me mad, i am trying not to get to obsessed about it but Im finding it hard!

Are you using Fertility Friend website?  That site charts your temps for you, you just plug in the numbers and it will point out which day you've ovulated based on consistency of the charts.  You might not have ovulated on the day you thought you did.

You're right about the temp drops supposed to lead to your AF as far as all I've read, but I've had the same thing.  For the last week I have had really low temps but no AF.  I had spotting but nothing significant and now my temps are slowly rising.  We have TTC since end of Sept.  I went to the Dr. last week b/c no period and she said that I'd have to wait 1 more month b/c I was on birth controll and it could take that long to regulate my hormones.  Good luck keep us posted I would like to know what happens since we have the same problem w/BBTs

Usually if your temps stay elevated when you are expect AF you could be pregnant, have you tested yet?

I don't know what to make of BBT's either.  I've been trying to chart mine too and for the past few days my temp has been at least .4 of a degree higher than any of my other temps measured, and I'm due for my AF today...

I swear, when you're a kid and they try to educate you about sex, they make is sound like being in the same room as a boy can get you instantly pregnant ... If only it were that simple. :/
