why does everyone say full term is 39 weeks?

Is every city and state different?lol. Full term is 37 weeks here in California. Im 35 weeks and my ob said baby can come from 37-41 weeks and if he comes at 37 he will be perfectly developed. Every ob says different things i say they all get together and agree on what is fullterm haha

My doc is going off the 37weeks also.
Some docs go off 39 weeks.
It's best to just listen to your own doctor.

Insurance companies have done studies on how babies develop health issues. They noticed that those that make it to at least 49 weeks, they tend to have fewer health issues overall. So, OB'S are practicing less and less elective induction before 39 weeks for this reason.

Maybe by your dr but the American Association for Pediatrics (every OBs guidelines) changed it from 37 to 39wks january 2014. Some are still transitioning their practice. But no, it is not officially 37wks in aamerica. It is 39.

Really?39 weeks. Ive seen 2 different ob and they both said 37 weeks even at the hospital im supposed to give labor the doctor their told me if i go in by 37 weeks they wont try and stop labor because in many cases some hospitals give steroid shots before 40 weeks to stop labor, and those shots can cause the baby to have health problems or therefore you go past your due date and then you have to get induced which is worse. This is so weird. Regardless of the day baby comes when he comes.

My ob will not stop your labor if your are 37 weeks or more. They will not induce however until 39 weeks.

Thats right ^ past 34wks they will not stop labor. And like I said. It changed just this year it will take time for all drs to switch over especially since a lot of women want to resist it bc they enjoyed the option of inducing earlier. A lot of drs are dragging feet to satisfy as many women and perform inductions as much as they can before the hammer comes down.

It is actually 39w here in California not 37. It was just changed this year and was recently on the news multiple times. Doctors just usually won't stop labor after you are at least 36w.

Some doctors will induce before 39weeks. I was induce with both of my previous pregnancies. One at 39weeks and the other at 38weeks.

It changed this year because of a study that says keeping baby the full 40 is crucial to development or something like that. They discovered some sort of growth the baby does in those final weeks so it switched to 39 but my doc still says 37

Well I sure hope my new doctor will induce me at 38weeks or before with this pregnancy. My youngest was induced at 38weeks and came out being 9#3oz. My oldest 39weeks and was 10#2oz. By 40weeks or more my baby would be 11+#.

They will probably see that as medical necessity cajunmommy. In medically necessary cases they will induce earlier.

My Dr says full term is 39 weeks and they will stop labor up until 37 weeks. LadyBeeley is correct though the AAP has changed it to 39 weeks.
