breastfeeding is nasty??

Not judging, just saying. I was talking to my cousin, (I'm 23, she is 28). And I was reeking her that I breastfed my son and I plan to do the same for my daughter. She was like really?? That is so nasty to me. Especially for girls.....??? I was like well it's a natural part of life and it was the only way to feed a newborn for the longest. She was like she would pump if it didn't take so long but she will never latch her baby on her breast because it feels nasty.
Here is my take. This world makes everything so nasty and tabboo. When actually some things are as normal as a plant growing into a tree. I feel like the women and men who find breastfeeding disgusting are so used to a woman's body being overly sexualized by society. Women get plastered all over TV with boob and booty showing, but you rarely see a guy showing some balls or penis. To me, this world is slowly crumbling.
In no way am I bashing anyone who chooses not to breastfed, I'm just appalled by the things we register as  nasty. Anything could happen at any time. And if formula was somehow tainted and could not be used for months until they figured out what was happening to it, some mothers would have NO way to feed their baby because their milk would be gone...when we are equipped to be able to feed baby at the drop of a dime.

And just to add I bf my son for a yr and am very shy about my girls so yes when out in public I am one of those women that fed in the backseat of my car I fed my son in ppls spare bedrooms while visiting or excused myself while I had visitors at my house I have fed my son in a public toilet stall! Because im not comfortable with the world seeing my boobs but doin that is not even a consideration to me when I think of all the benefits of bfing modesty while bfing is a different discussion to me from someone who thinks boobs are only to be used during sex by their partner (and fyi maybe tmi my husband luvs my leaky boobs theyre a good horny scale for him to go off of)

Maybe nasty is a bad word choice, but I personally ,(let me repeat, personally, as me myself) strongly feel that it's uncomfortable. I'm soo private and shy I would hate to have to whip out a boob in public, or even having to pump seems like a dreadful task. Breast feeding is a huge commitment, that I'm not willing to make because one, I also have a toddler that im committed to that needs attention and two, I'm just not comfortable with latched on to for hours on end. I agree that breast is best, but also formula does just fine in nourishing baby.

Some of the comments  are clearly anti-formula and judgmental. I think that attitude is as wrong as calling breastfeeding nasty.

Lol, hope none of that was directed at me, because my comment was definitely directed at you.   My point was that neither side should be judgmental

The people that get offended by this feel guilty themselves. I felt guilty when I couldn't bfeed mine.

And no one was talking about people who can't breastfeed for medical reasons. I never said formula was  bad or wrong. I really wish people would add **** that had nothing to do with my post.

I never once said everyone should breastfeed, never said that every woman should latch their baby.....NOT ONCE. So please get offended about something else, NOT anything that I said. I simply said that to think breastfeeding PERIOD is nasty is the result of the society we live in. I even said that I used to find it kind of weird..... I truly hate when people turn something into a judgmental thing. Breastfeed if you like, don't if you don't like. Damn.

Not all women are physically able to breastfeed bc of illness, medication, milk not coming in, raw nipples, ect. and not all women choose to breastfeed.  Its a choice and not an indicator of good vs bad mothering. No one should feel guilty bc they don't want to just like no one should call it nasty.  Its important to take guilt/judgment out of the equation.  Everyone should feel free to do w their boobs as they see fitm

There are more nutrients in breast milk than there will ever be in artificial baby milk ( formula). Breast milk will never be recalled,  you will never have to worry about not being able to find clean water to make a bottle. Breast feeding helps reduce the risk of different types of cancer in both the mother and child, it reduces the risk of diabetes. The manufactures of artificial baby milk are desperately trying to replicate breast milk,  and they will never be able to. Also, there are no acceptable amounts of insect parts in breast milk, but there are in formula.

Saying its "nasty" sounds immature and judgemental. Maybe it was just uncomfortable or painful for her. I breastfed and used formula. The only problems I have w breastfeeding is women who refuse to show modesty and cover up. Just because its "natural" doesn't mean everyone wants to see it. Also women who are breastfeeding Nazis and are super hard on women who choose to use formula.

YES! I dont get it bfing is nasty? Like pregnancy isnt nasty in alot of ways?  Mucous plugs n bags of water n swelling n stretch marks n and being constipated for 9 months to poop during delivery? Sex cant be nasty? All kinds of fluids being swapped? Its all part of nature and bfing is how nature intended for human young to be fed!

Before the time of formula all us women had was our breast to feed our children when they were first born. I'm breastfeeding and I don't care what anyone says. Its natural and ancient for women to breastfeed their baby or babies. Some people are so ignorant on things it annoys me.

All I have to say, to any woman is, if you're comfortable having your significant other latch you, you should be comfortable at least trying to nourish your baby. Disagree, it's okay. Just an opinion.

Agreed. I got bashed for feeding past a certain age let alone breastfeeding in general. I wish America had views like some other places where its the norm to breastfeed especially out in public without getting harassed about it. I'm not going to bash someone on formula feeding or for pumping so I shouldnt get bashed for feeding my baby from the tap.

I have to agree... the world today think of breast as a sexual tool.. and not something that is natural and ment for feeding infants. Honestly I think that breast feeding is the way to go. But people have their own veiws of it. I would never think it is gross in anyway. I think it is a beautiful process and those who do breast feed are very strong women. You shouldnt let others opinions cliud your judgement on what you think is right and wrong. It is definently.
I plan on breast feeding but I also plan on pumping as well so my baby daddy gets the bonding time as well with our son.
But like others say to each their own. And please just don't judge the people who are close to you because of their decision about how to raise their kid. You can make your own decisions when you have a child of your own. Be supportive.
Good luck mamas. And congrats on the babies :)
