weird!

so I just found out that at the hospital that I will be delivering at that if you take off your baby's hat for any reason(even to take pics) that they whisk your baby away to the nursery. I don't know if I should be happy to have such a cautious l&d, or mad that I can't take a picture of him with his hat off!

Acline93 thats your baby you can do as you please. Talk to your doctor next time I think the lady was just being dumb. If someone ever trys to take your baby away without your premission just tell them to eat rocks! What r they going to do call the hat police?

I agree not every were in the u.s. Is like that. I ve never heard of it maybe she just got a dumb nurse that was trying to scare her. Babies wiggle and hats are constantly coming off. I live in texas and my baby always stays with me  some women have harder births and they ask if you would like to get rest and theyll watch baby. Other then that the baby is not obligated to leave, unless its having breathing or other medical problems.

Not all us hosptials are like that.  At my hospital they let you keep the baby in your room day n nite and just check in u. I took my sons hat off and clothes to take pix.

In India too the baby remains with mom if it's doing well.

And how will they know if your going to take it off for a pic? Just have someone on watch if your really worried about it, if it's just for a few pics it will only be a few seconds! That is very weird tho, I know my hospital has you keep a hat on them, but if they are caught withought a hat, then they take the temp to see if they are cold haha.

Just buy the cutest hat you can find and your pics will look soo cute :D
and in uk were advised that babys should be with mothe straight from birth (unless any problems of course) and to remove hats when indoors... even on buses so they dont overheat. unless theres something rong noone can take our babies away from us... :D

Thats crazy..my bub is absolutely not going to the nursery if i need a break my hubs is staying there the two days or ill call my mom lol i dont want him outta my sight unless he has too, here in fl they only take them if you request it an your not breast feeding.an hat wise,i guess it makes some sense if your gonna keep it off but just taking it off for a pic seems extreme.

Every country is different.. here in uk if you get your own room then you can bring other kids over otherwise due to high risk of infection they tend not to... :/ lol... US has its own good features like your hospitals provide everything within the hospital... here because everything is free for us including any operations... they dont really bother.. and private hospitals are very expensive...

@Emmaftm... thats weird our city hospital provide with baby milk atleast.. other than that everything is urs lol... at some very urgent cases they do provide stuff as well... i knw few yrs ago they use to give maternity pads, underpants baby nappies etc.. but since government has less money so they ask mothers to bring it themselves.. some of the hospital even dont let you use there electricity..  you can not charge your phone or anything...

I think we have nurseries to give the mommy a break without being disturbed..u can ask them to bring ur baby in at any time & some hospitals here in MD will let them stay with u & only take them if u ask or really wana get sum rest...I'm a ftm but have seen bcuz of my friends... they also provide babies with blankets, lil tshirts, diapers, formula,bottles...most give u a bag of things to take home

I wouldn't give a crap what their policies are, its your child. I would kick up a right fuss if they dare take my child, its your baby, you do what you see fit.  I am in the UK too and we don't have nurseries here, or anything given to you. Here we are actually advised to not put hats on babies indoors anymore.

Neither did i... i am shocked :/...  i guess every hospital and country are different... just buy a hat which doesn't cover his forehead too much and take snaps.. obviously there's not much you can do as hospitals have there rules... i probably going to ask my midwife about that and lets see what she says...

That's so weird no offence or anything but I never understand why over in America you have your babies taken away to nurseries, I live in the UK and with both my daughter's they stay with you from minute they are born to when you take them home you dress them how you want they sleep next to you in a cot and you change and feed them when they need it the midwives do not interfer I personally couldn't cope with my baby being taken to a nursery x

It's because they don't want the temp to lower and their excuse is that if they see a baby without it's hat on, they take it to the nursery to put it in the incubator for however long they seem fit. An actual nurse that works in the maternity ward at my hospital told me this, so I guess I won't be taking hatless pics while I'm there :/

Surely they cant take ur baby away from u anyway? Ur its mother, next of kin, its legal guardian. They cant remove ur child from ur care, id check on that.

I no the general idea for the hat is to keep babys temp up.. bec a majority of our body heat is released from our head..  but takin it if for a sec to take a few pucs shud b no big deal!! Kinda silly u can't take it off for pix...

That is weird. It's your baby, if you don't want a hat you should be able to take it off.
