I was checked at 37 weeks. I will be checked routinely because it is baby number six and with baby number five I did not have regular contractions and they only hurt for about an hour before push time. She wants me in as soon as I am in labor to get my antibiotics for gbs so she said I will get checked at every appointment and she would probably have me come in between appointments to get checked if I felt that something was not feeling normal.

I've been checked with all mine and everything was just fine. It doesn't hurt and it is nice knowing you are progressing. I have very fast labors so i like to get checked. Also the dr wants to know if you are progressing too because sometimes they hold off on inducing you if your body shows no signs of labor like dilating or effacing.

There's no medical reason to do it routinely for women who are at low risk of preterm labor. It increases the risk of irritation and/or infection to the cervix and gives absolutely no indication of when labor will begin.
Women can go from 0-10cm in four hours or stay 3cm dilated for six weeks wi th no changes. Checking the cervix before actual labor starts tells your doctor NOTHING which in turn tells you nothing.
I personally asked my midwife for an update after about 13 hours of active labor at 40w1d but was never checked before that. Too much risk for zero reward.

I've gotten checked every week since 34weeks..
If you ask they would do it they can't tell you no.
But then again knowing if your dilating or not is very stressful I wish I wouldn't have known..

They can start checking at 37 weeks to see if have dilated but if it doesnt seem like you have had any contractions or any sign of baby wanting to come they wnt because it is uncomterble, the first time i was checked was at 38 weeks thats when i had just started having small cramps

I got checked every week after 36 wks. Got a membrane sweep at 38 wks and had my baby the next day at 38+2. And it's not painful. Maybe a little uncomfortable but that's it. Now the membrane sweep is a little painful.

Usually if they don't offer you can ask and they should check you at 37 weeks.

Most doctors won't check you until you are in labor unless you tell them you're having a lot of contractions or feeling a lot of pelvic pressure, etc.
