ankle and foot swelling

I've had really bad swelling in my feet ankles for weeks now. I have 3/4" pitting. It's seriously gross, it's like having memory foam legs. Anyway, does anybody know what I can do to relieve it at all? I've cut out salt, and have been drinking tons of water.

My doctor doesn't seem to be concerned, they had me coming in every week for a while to check my blood pressure and everything.....everything is fine right now, I'm just heading into my third trimester so who knows.  I go back on June 12th. Right now it's just annoying and gross. How soon does it go away after delivery?

I agree with the other ladies.  I have a tendancy to swell really bad in the last few weeks of pregnancy.  They ALWAYS check me for preeclampsia.  I've never had it but always prefer to be checked anyway.  As the others said...keep drinking plenty of fluids, cut out salt....and just on the off chance you don't know this...read the labels on EVERYTHING, even things you think DON'T have a lot of sodium actually do.  Keep your feet propped up, even when laying down.  Other than that there really isn't much you can do until after you delivery.

I am in the same boat.  They will need to check you to rule out pre-eclampsia or anything like that.  But after you see the doctor and everything checks out okay, it could turn out that you are an unlucky one that is swelling, like me.  I had to buy a pair of men's size 9 sandals with velcro adjustable straps that will let out through the day, and that's all that will fit me now.  (I wore a ladies' 9 before this.)  My feet never go down all the way, even after sleeping at night.  And mine will pit, too.  At the end of the day the swelling goes up as far as my knee area.  Elevating them above heart level helps me some.  My doctor suggested graduated compression hose/socks.  I got a pair of the socks at K-mart.  I forget the name of them but I think they are for diabetics and people traveling long distances.  You can also get more expensive ones from medical supply stores.  They help some, but you have to get them on pretty quickly in the morning before the swelling gets too bad.  At this point, even wearing them I'm still swelling quite a bit.  And it can be hot wearing them when it's warm outside so I haven't been wearing them a lot lately.  Definitely drink lots of water and walk around.  If you sit a lot keep your feet propped up if you can and take breaks about every hour to walk around for 5-10 minutes, or however long you can.  This is one thing that works against me because I sit at a desk all day and it gives the fluids time to pool.

I am the same way and my doctor just told me to continue to drink plenty of fluids cut back on salt and keep my feet proped up. I found out that proping my feet up helps alot. I also soak them in wam water with epsom salt. But you should call your doctor just to rule out anything serious.

I agree with neasyc - this absolutely warrants a call to your doctor.
